I've just bought a 2014 XKR and it has a USB slot that supposedly can read MP3 music files.

I've found that it works fine with a few MP3 files in the root folder of the USB stick but if the MP3 files are contained in lots of folders (album names) then after spending a few minutes 'docking USB' it reboots the system and the USB shows as 'No playable media'.

I've used USB sticks in similar aged XFs and XJs with no problem. The interface seems identical.

Any ideas would be appreciated? I'm thinking it may need a software update.

I've asked the supplying dealer but no reply yet.

Many thanks.

There's a USB stick stuffed full of folders/albums plugged into my 2010 XKR, no problems except that they are quieter than when I play music from a CD or use the radio.

I'd suggest you format the drive, and recopy the files. I've only had problems if I removed files, and add new ones. Seems to screw things up sometimes, but a format & copy fixed it.

Thanks.

I've tried reformatting the drive. In fact I've tried 3 USB sticks of different sizes and brands both in original state and also reformatted. No luck.

It plays MP3 files in the root folder but won't find any folders.

I think I have a dodgy system. :-(

Not a good start.

Sounds like (pun intended...) it's something to do with the interface in the vehicle.
Just guessing, however.

Dealer said I must be formatting the USB stick incorrectly but the same stick works fine in an XF, an XJ and a 2011 XK so I don't think it's the stick.

It must be an issue with the car I think. I'm hoping there's an update although seems odd for a late 2014 car.

Good news!

After trying every USB I had and them failing I've just found and tried one that I bought a few years ago. It worked perfectly first time!!

For information it's a Kingston Technology DTSE9. I have both a 8GB and a 16GB version and both seem to work fine.

I've noticed on some of the Jag Forums that others have had the same issues so hope they read this.

Kingston have released a newer faster version but the one I have seems to still be avaliable..

After a few frustrating days I'm now happy. :-)
