Hello chaps, need a bit of advice from my fellow Jag enthusiasts. I've detected a fair bit of play in the steering rack on my X308 XJR, for the price they seem to be available at I was going to try one from a breakers. The issue I have is allegedly there is a slower rack for the XJ8 and a quicker rack for the XJR, is this true? To me the current rack seems quite slow so I don't really want it any 'worse' if I can help it.
The problem seems to be that there's a dead spot with the wheel centred particularly at higher speeds where the steering does nothing. Looking at the column and UJs right down into the rack I can see virtually no visible play as with the slightest turn of the wheel it all turns as it should. For me it's one thing that I'd love to get sorted on it as I know it should be far better than that.

I remember replacing the lower steering rack on my 98 xjr several years ago.
It is an issue that crops up on these cars, I opted for one from the breakers and guess what, it was duff too.

Ended up with an original from Jaguar main Dealer.
