I go check out my XK(knock on wood). One small question for you owners; can I listen to the CD player and not have that stupid antenna rise?

Unfortunately the aerial always comes up with the radio on (even if you're playing a cd) in case you want the traffic announcement thing.

Hi Alex,

It is simple enough to fit a small high quality rocker switch inside the centre cubby box and then simply cut the antenna feed wire at the rear of the radio and run it to the switch then back down to the loom, have done this for a few customers now. Then when listening to the cd changer you can flick the switch and hey presto aerial retracts.

I have had an 'override switch' fitted when I had my headunit changed over so I can prevent the aerial from raising. They have put the switch just above the inside of the small coin/sunglasses holder to the right of the steering column. Is totally hidden but easy to use! Very easy to do and a cheap 'mod'!

Oh would you stop going on about the cursed aerial. Its not starvation in africa, its not global warming. If you turn off the radio before you get out you'll never notice.

Look it's simple.
Someone at Jaguar obviously thinks that:
a) you get better radio resection with a sticking out aerial.
b) that the point of having an aerial is to get good reception.

I really can't believe people can make so much fuss about an aerial.

Precisely. Clarkson gave up making sensible comments about cars some time back. Even he knows its time to pack it.

Look little Alex. Give over on the aerial. Just enjoy the car.

Question

Do people also give Mercedes such a hard time over the arial on the current SL?

OK, so it's on the left rear wing not on the right hand one.

But it's not even an electric one. It's a constant eye sore.

It's also a rather impotent weedy little affair, surely suggesting something is missing in the trouser department.

Didn't the great Mr JC spend his own money on buying one of these?

Went to Mercedes World with the XKEC a month or two back and the SL65 got rather slated by club members, mainly because of the aerial, in fact the only thing positive we could say about the £149,000 car was that we liked the exhaust trims

A neighbour has an SL55 AMG, it makes a nice noise.
