Had Jags, Rovers, Mercs. When I heard about the new XK I went straight to my dealer and placed a deposit. I had never bought a new car before. The dealership was the worst experience ever as they knew I wanted the car and I knew that I was on a waiting list so stuck. I waited a year and finally my car arrived, I got £1000 knocked off due to the dealership signing paperwork in my name and I threatened them with court action, in hindsight I should have thrown the car back and sued them! I was like a child with a new toy though. I was suprised that the car was not quite as fast as I thought it should be, it took a lot to hustle it along, taking off the traction control helped a lot. Interior sucked big time, I have owned many jags and this one felt like a posh Mondeo. The promised exhuast sound funnelled into the cab was missing and so there was no sense that this was a fast GT. The flappy paddle gear change moves with the wheel so it can catch you out if trying to be spirited on twisty sections. Mine left me for a day unable to put petrol in as the fuel filler refused to open. I would come back to the car from a day away and find all windows open! Bluetooth phone constatly refused to work, I rang Jaguar to speak to technical and they rang through to my dealership for an answer as they could not help ( that took me 6 phone calls). I eventually got the bluetooth phone book working by undocking and redocking phone every time I get in to the car. One of my alloys is perforated and Jaguar wont help, I have to pump up every 3 days. MORE? crap stereo aerial, stupid stereo controls that are replicated 3 times in the cabin, poor wash wipe that wets you if your side windows are open, Safety system warning that stays on if you park facing up an incline. NO TEMPERATURE GAUGE - this is possibly the most stupid thing I have ever seen, especially as the handbook says don't go over 4000rpm until engine warm.

Just got rid of it at a 14000 loss and happy to do so. Buy one of these when they are 20 - 30k anything more is a waste

It's a shame you had a bad experience but really you should have bought the XKR if you wanted fast. My experience was the exact oposite of yours, dealer was awesome, service was great, they'd do anything to make sure I was happy, little things like making sure I got a large discount on the road angel I bought from their parts department, making sure I had a long test drive of the car before I bought it, only wanting 1000GBP deposit and nothing more even after the order was placed at the factory.

To the car, I think the interior is excellent, not too fussy but still luxurious(You did spec the Lux interior yeah?) excellent stereo(alpine premium system), great engine sound when you are pushing, quiet when cruising, paddle shift gearchange has to be one of the best paddle operated manual gearshifts there has ever been and I've tried a few(Ferrari 360, Aston Vanquish, ok these are automated manuals but why bother when this proper autobox is a million times better) No problems with bluetooth, can't really see a problem having stereo controls on the dash and on the steering wheel, why is that an issue? Ok the ariel is bad, but it's just an ariel and I have to say I've never had a car with such good radio reception but I do agree I hate the ariel and I'm pretty sure that will get sorted out sometime soon.

Like I said, you should have waited for the XKR, it's a very different animal.

What??? I test drive a car loads before I finally decide on it. A 20 min spin around the block is no way enough to decide whether I should spend £50k or £5k on a car for that matter. Plus I need to see in the flesh any colour combo or interior finish. I had an new XK for nearly 2 months and would definately get one.

I see you were desperate to sell, well you took the offer, so I don't think you can complain about the depreciation. If I'd known you were that desperate I would have bought it myself, I expect the new owner has sold it on already!

How can you test drive a car when it has not been launched? My issues were with dealerships and manufacturer support any issue with the car could have been lived with as long as decent customer care and back up was there.

Depreciation was fine, if you read the post I said I was happy to sekl it at a loss, no complaint from me. Most of these replies are just stupid. This is my experience and I sincerely hope that no-one has similar.

I put a deposit on a new XKR, subject to test driving it and seeing the options in the flesh, you could have done the same thing. I wouldn't expect anyone to buy something they hadn't seen for that amount of money.

If you expect a new design and model at launch not to experience problems, then I'm afraid you expect far too much from a machine. The dealers service dept would also have been as much in the dark as they need to build up experience on the niggles and glitches (which they have now for the probs you describe). Best car to buy is the one 2 years into launch.

I do agree the flappy paddles are in a crap place being mounted to the wheel.

I did the same as you triple7, deposit and order subject to satisfactory test drive, the deposit was refundable up until the car started to be built, so I had about 5 months to change my mind after placing the order

I think thought the paddles are perfectly positioned, you never have to take your hands off the wheel when driving swiftly

This brings back memories of my new XJS in 1992. Glad to see that nothing changes. ** rofl

My next new car was a Range Rover. £40k new in Jan 1995 and recovered on a low loader four times in the first year. Oh what fun it was to buy British..... My TVR's have been so easy to live with in comparison....

** (Having said that my dealership TWR were always very helpful, even lending me their new black XJRS to have fun with for a week on one occasion).

Seems you just can't guarantee to win.
