I have been looking recently for an XJR (mid nineties car} pre v8.
I am looking to keep the car a while, only using sunny weekends etc.
Most cars are sombre greens and blacks but I remember seeing one years ago that was a really striking kingfisher? colour. No its not aquamarine, but I remember it vividly.
Would this colour be frowned upon by the Jag community and if you know where one is in A1 nick, low miles etc. let me know.
Indeed was this colour available on the supercharged car?

I know the colour you mean, was quite popular on the straight 6 cars, I've never seen a V8 in that colour.

Its sounds awful, but actually I thought it looked great thumbup

Was it called Kingfisher Blue, or something similar? I remember it was really fashionable for about 5 minutes, then went straight to the bottom of the used car pricelists.

However, I have seen more straight six manuals in this colour than any other... scratchchin

...and a respray can't be 'too' expensive... scratchchin

Here is a link to a paint website, If you know the year of the car just select that and it will bring up all of the colors Jaguar used that year. Some of the colors aren't represented by the samples very well at all but the names should help...

If it's the colour I'm thinking of then a lot of the early X300 XJRs and Sports were painted it. There's a picture of an XJR in the colour in the 1996 Jaguar range brochure, I'll try and scan it for you later. I though I had the full set of brochures for the X300 including the colour chart but I can't find them at the moment.

I was looking at buying one when I bought my car but I wasn't sure whether it's attraction would fade if the colour turned out to be fashionable for 5mins. So in the end I went for a black one, which was actually the first black one I'd seen.

As to the option of the Jaguar community, first sod them, it's your car. If you're looking for a good condition low mileage one I guess you want keep it for a while and when you do get around to selling it either all X300 will have reached the "shed" phase or will have become modern classics. In the first case I don't suppose the colour will make a lot of difference, in the second then it might well turn out to be a popular colour as the launch cars were these bright metallics and it would be very "period".

From 1994 or 95 to 98 they offered turquoise.

Here is another paint website that has a bit better samples:

Yes well done trooper thats the one.
I think it looks fab, but if I hang on to it will racing green be easier to live with?
Will these cars ever become a classic?
I seem to remember a top gear years ago when Clarkson raved about XJR's.
Anyone else remember this or have I got it wrong?

The cars are classics now, though it helps if they have been looked after. The Jaguar community are not sniffy about things like colour. Mine's silver but I think that looks fantastic.

Hi,

me new here. The 1994-7 XJR tourquise was less than ideal. In fact as a colour it dated terribly and in OZ sunlight looked awful. I have a blue 1997 XJ Sport - the color was known as Antigua blue - now known as Pacific blue. It varies considerably in different lighting and as a colour most people who see it love it - very seductive and just what pussy needs to emphasise the flanks.

Of course you need the cream or ivory leather to set it off - none of this bloody dark charcoal leather - hideous.

cheers

Bill
