Hi all. I've finally found a Genuine Jag wood/leather steering wheel in excellent condition and the right colour to replace the all leather version on my '97 X300 Executive. Does anybody out there know how I can safely disarm the existing airbag before removing it to swop the wheels please? Obviously it has to ge back in and be re-armed.

I know it is not the same set-up as an XJ40 - which I know how to deal with having successfully fitted a Myrtle Productions all wood effect wheel. Certainly made a difference to the interior!

Any help greatly appreciated. wavey

Hi, the X300 has an electronic airbag, therefore you need to disconnect the battery and wait approx 3 minutes for the system to power down. Its then a matter of removing the two TORX headed screws that hold the air-bag to the steering wheel. A little tip, if you have an electric column, move it all the way out and down before disconnecting the battery. Set the wheel in the straight ahead position so you get the new one back in the same place. Simple as that, you will obivously need a radio code after reconnecting the battery.

Thanks Melhook. Hopefully I will have a go at changing over the wheel this weekend. If it anything like my XJ40, the interior will look much better with the half wood/leather wheel - especially as it is exactly the right colour for the car!
