Bear with me here. Here's a couple of videos I found on YouTube. The first shows a TVR Tuscan up against a BMW M3 (E92 V8), doing roll ons from around 30mph down a runway.

The second shows a 5.0 XKR versus the same type of BMW M3;

In other videos of the same XKR at the same event, the header claims that it's a standard 510hp car. Not sure about the Tuscan or M3 though smile

It is a bit disappointing that even years after their sad demise the same old comments come up about TVR's breaking down. They really were not that bad but you really wouldn't expect the same level of robustness from a small specialist sports car company offering cars that back in the day of the cerbera, griff and chim offered levels of performance way beyond their price point when compared to a major manufacturer like Jag.

Yes I have been fortunate to own both TVR's and a xkr (x100 shape). They are very different vehicles, the TVR's I owned were a wedge and then a chim450 so not a cerb unfortunately. The TVR's offer raw driving pleasure and compared to the XKr the chim would probably have been faster around a track. The thing is though whilst most jags will probably be running what ever suspension jaguar decided was best at the time, many TVR's will by now have had new dampers and proper corner weighting which can transform the car. They also get niceties such as LSD. This makes them more fun when you want to play.

The jag is still a great car, it can sit in traffic without me constantly feeling I need to star at the temp gauge and oil pressure (even though I never had an issue with the TVR I never quite trusted it). I can commute in slow traffic up hill without fear of getting cramp in my left leg!

Things still go wrong with the jag but at 12 years old it is still my daily drive and does cost less in regular maintenance than the TVR's did. I still miss the TVR and probably should have kept it, not sure I will feel the same about the jag when it gets swapped.

Same with Jags, you still get comments about them based on hearsay about the BL years.
All I can say as an owner is I wished the German motors I've paid for were anything like as reliable as the more recent Jags. But don't expect the public at large to believe it.

I have a BMW 650 which has been very reliable.
Unfortunately not as reliable as my TVR Chimaera 500 which just required a new number plate bulb and a speedo sensor (think £50) and never let us down over 3 years.

I often think "If only everything in life was as reliable as our TVR"

smile
Hoping our next car will be an XKR.

Just stumbled across this thread. I've owned 3 chims (400, 400HC and 450), pre cat griff and a Tuscan red rose. I've now got a 2004 XKR 4.2. To be honest in daily driving its every bit as quick as any TVR I've had. It doesn't handle as well as my Tuscan but of course is a much bigger car. They are fantastic. However I still hanker after a cerb!
