So Ian Callum says that in 2 years the Jaguar name will be dropped off the back of the cars and only the leaper will appear. But the new XF will carry both for the immediate future, is that because without the Jaguar name people may think it's a new Lexus? Or is that to allow 'TATA' to put their name on the back with the leaper?biggrin

Putting the leaper on the back looks tacky to me. On the XF concept it was just a couple of sylised lines suggesting the leaper, now they've just stuck the bloody thing on and it looks crap.

It is part of a discussion Callum started a few months ago.
He said that the new Jaguar were going to be very different from the future and initially probably some people would not recognize them immediately as Jaguar.
He said that he was sure that after 2 years the new style would have been easily recognizable even without the name.

His declaration now is that he things that it is still useful to have it now to make the car more recognizable. Within two years the name will not be necessary and he want to remove it (before the XJ6 the name Jaguar was not there) and only leave the leaper.

What is going on seesm to be in line with that. Most of the comments that you can see over the net seems to recognize that it is a very beatiful car and maybe the best in its cathegory but they do not recognize the historical styling of Jaguar.

Also the leaper on the back of the car is really nice IMHO!!!

I do like the 'J A G U A R' across my boot plinth, it says a lot about the marque I have bought. But as needs to be recognised, peeps complained bitterly at Jaguars look at past for it's inspiration, they are making a clean break from the past. There is a lot of criticism already about the XF, but as with most 'new directions' it takes time to seep into peeps tastes.

One thing Jaguar hasn't got is time, the XF must hit the showroom with a wow factor to get non jag enthusiasts through the showroom doors with the intent to buy. The prototype promised and yes we all understand that legislation would water down the production vehicle but the watering down seems to have taken the wow factor away, interior yes a hit but the exterior does remind from the sides a GS Lexus, it may well sell in the states but in the UK the Jags main competition is the 3 germans A6 , e-class, 5 series has it the wow to move those buyers and without the name on the back does it have enough Jaguar DNA to say it's a jag, the XK both old and new DO but in a small sector they will stand out, the jaguar in the medium exec bracket may still need the name?
