Has anyone ordered a new XF yet? - I keep changing my mind on whether it would be nice to have one of the first or wait until I can test drive the car (in March next year?) and read some reviews........

The other thing is which engine - diesel makes most sense but with the paddles it would be nice to rev a petrol engine. The 3.0 will be too slow so then I thought about the 4.2 V8 for the noise. But then maybe I should get the SV8 as I'm now rather used to the power in my XJR. But 55k on a new car........that's a lot of dosh.

On the other hand my wife says we should get a Ford S-Max and she's probably right.......

I was at Castle Bromwich this morning.

The XF is FANTASTIC, even better than the photos.

You can put a deposit down 'subject to test drive' and then decide once you get to see it in the flesh. The 2.7D is the car to have, the SV8 is just too expensive IMHO.

Sure will, I'll bet it will be $ for £, so yours for $55,000! Nice one Jag.......

I have to say, as long as it sells very well over there I'll tolerate it. I won't hold my breath, poor jag is l;aunching a new model to save them just as the Americans are feeling the pinch and possibly a recession of sorts. I guess I'll go with destiny to decide Jags fate.

seriously tempted, it is a very nice looking car, and I'd go for the diseasel, I think with the likelyhood of a 500bhp R version the SV8 will probably become a BMW 540i much loved by those in the know, but without the cache of being the "big" one. so perhaps diesel one for a couple of years on a GMFV deal and then if the mood takes me a quick one later.

Back end looks like a Mondeo.

Not really special enough for a Jag, IMHO.

Interior looks awesome though, esp the gear selector.

DanS - I think you might be right about the SV8 becoming a 540i equivalent. Diesel it is then with a view to getting an XFR if they make one .lick

The more I look at the pictures the more I like it and the car mags seem to agree that it looks better in the flesh/metal

I was having a good look at the XF last week at Castle Bromwich and it's fair to say that it looks much much better in the flesh.

Sitting inside it feels more like the XK than a saloon, with the steeply raked windscreen and fairly snug seat. Very similar steering wheel as well.

idea ok, I also think a diesel one (premium luxury, obviously), which is £37,500.

But add:

Bad boy 20" alloys: £1,750
Metallic paint: £600
Bi-Xenon's: £450

Sub Total: £40,300

Add an old XKR (while waiting for the XFR to come out): £15,995 driving

TOTAL: £56,295

Then again, could just get the SV8 and chop it in when the XFR comes out.... any idea when that is?

The cost of 20" alloys is outrageous given the car comes with perfectly good alloys as standard.

I'd be tempted to take the standard wheels - use up the tyres and inevitablly scuff them a bit - and then get some 20" replacement wheels and tyres proabably for the same money as the option.

Followed an 07 reg XF through Belgium today. It certainly has road presence and while the rear view seems a bit weak to me, I did like the rest of it. Given it was the SV8, a certain amount of 'grunt' appeared to be on tap.

Had the co-pilot take a quick snap of it as I didn't think it was out yet and I hadn't recalled even seeing a final piccy... Feel a bit foolish given the cat's clearly of the bag (pun not intended!)

Hey ho...

Well I've now paid a £1,000 to put my name on the list for a March 2008 car. A visit to Castle Bromwich to view an XF in November is now on the cards.

It's a lot of money to spend but someone's got to buy the cars to keep Jag going!

Triple 7 - love the look of your XKR. I had a good look at a few XK's when I was ordering the XF. I'd love an XK but the kids need somewhere to sit!

I just hope the XF is as well received as the XK.

My only concern is that the 2.7D is not going to give me enough of a buzz after the XJR. I rather like the fact the XJR doesn't look that sporty, but really shifts when required. It's easier to get excited about performance than economy! But I'm sure the 2.7D is the one to get when you look at the prices and I remember being impressed by the S-type 2.7 I tried.

If it bothers me that much I'll chop it in for an XFR when it comes out unless laugh

Note to self: Must earn more money.

You'll never be able to earn 'enough' money. If you did have a huge paycheck, you wouldn't be looking at an XF to haul the kids about, more like a Scaglietti!!!

So what colour for the XF???

The 456 was/is gorgeous but a Scaglietti hurl The only excuse for I can think of is to make BangleMangleWagons look a little less hideous

nice video of an SV8 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGy7lnp67us

As for colour, no idea yet - I like my XJR's midnight/ivory combo but something different might be nice. It's hard to say what will work best until I can see some cars.
