My husband is just changing fom a BMW 630 sport co car. He was getting the same but convertible, but took a shine to the entry level XK. Both the same sort of money. However he has come home tonight in a foul mood re two local Jaguar dealer salesmen who have been complete to**ers. Does anyone know of down to earth dealership that actually value someone spending £64,000. Both he went to were too intent on slagging off BMW couldnt explain extras available, and basically couldnt care less. To some people this may not be a lot of money but to us it is.

Cheers Di

Unfortunately, madam, there's the rub. Fine cars but a lot of the sales personnel, are, as you describe, tossers. Do not let that put you off, because the cars are genuinely fantastic. There are some good dealers, but you have to look them out. I found Swain & Jones in Farnham quite good, and I also found anyone who had anything to do with the Reg Vardy organisation (now Pendragon) genuinely diabolical. Very often its not the guys' fault, (with the exception of one or two individuals at Stratstone Newcastle.) They are in an impossible position. Some of them are trying to earn a living, understandably, but they are not enthusiasts themselves and don't have the knowledge you would hope for. They have zero resources to spend on service, so the sooner your car is out of their hands the safer it and you will be.

Try Harwoods in Chichester, West Sussex 01243 836500 http://www.harwoods.chichester.jaguar.co.uk/
I bought my XKR from there and they're very helpful.

See my post re:dealerships from a month or so ago. I too had some dismal service. I went with Stratstone of Mayfair as they are the premier dealer in the Jag network and hopefully I have comeback with Jag themselves if service isn't up to par.. They have been great to date (they are Pendragon, but I have not had a problem with them.) Speak to Martin Pierce. 0207 629 4404.

HA Fox in Guildford are fine and have a nice set up there, but Harwoods in Chi are good, if not a little to far away.

PS Go for the Jag not the Bimmer...........

I bought my Jaguar from Lancasters in Sidcup. That was quite a few years ago now, but I've mostly had the car serviced by their Reading branch who have always been very good with me. When ever I have wanted to look at other cars they have been most helpful. They've also got a showroom in Sevenoaks, I think.

Good luck.

Go to Lancasters Sidcup. This garage are helpful in both purchase and servicing of all Jaguars. I bought my XKR from Stratstones who were ok on sales but hopeless on servicing. The staff at Sidcup have always been friendly and very helpful on both by cars.

Thanks all. Unfortunately Lancaster Sidcup was one of the two he went to as it is our local dealer. He had an "S" Type several years ago from them and they were very good. So maybe try again.

Now opinions please... Jaguar have introduced a new green called "Emerald Fire" It looks gorgeous, if you like green but the 2nd dealer went oh no no no no no. Never be able to sell it. Husband thinks it was just because he wanted him in the silver one he just happened to have there and then. Now obviously green isnt the most popular colour but we think the Jaguar can take it. Whats your views please?

Cheers Di

Emerald Fire is the traditional Jag racing green paint with different green Mica particles in it. It looks totally amazing in bright sunlight. Plenty of that in the UK hehe

Since when has it been difficult to sell a green Jaguar in the UK? The salesman needs a red hot poker shoved up his....[catherinetatemodeon] well you know the rest [catherinetatemodeoff]

When had a Dealer ever been bothered about then you sell the car on.
Only when you do and then it is ALWAYS the wrong colour.

If you like the 'Emerald Fire' go for it.

thumbup try Martin Harvey at Guildford - v nice chap.

-and dont worry about Green on Jags, just make sure you go for 19" wheels minimum on the new XK and preferably 20" to really set it off.

Emeral Green is perhaps THE best colour for an XKR, but then, I'm currently in an XK8 convertible in Jaguar Racing green, so I would say that !
