Its just the entry level, maybe convertable or XKR next time round. Spec includes Emerald Grren paint Ivory leather charcoal trim. 19 inch wheels (couldnt justify £2500 for the 20 inch) stereo upgrade and various other bits and bobs. He got it from Lancaster Sidcup in the end. Got a very good deal. A great ammount of pencil sharpening to quote the sales guy went on. Think my other half's pencil is a tad blunter than his now.

Looks like I may also be keeping my Tuscan now as no interest in over two months. Had hoped to sell but not at silly price. Just as well because I think if it had gone he may have been more inclined to go for a 6 series soft top as we love to have some sort of roof down/off mtoring.

Great. Good combo, the big wheels are expensive, you will be able to find some after market ones for sure.

Is it a factory order? Is 4 weeks the delivery schedule?

Hopeully yes. He was shown one of a different spec in the system. As he ordered today the factory can change to his preferred spec. Sounds plausible as he was shown previous order. A question!!! He was told cars are Uk made but saw new cars being delivered with stickers on saying ferry passed like an import. Go on I have thick skin am I being blonde here or what??

The big dealers place speculative build slots so that the lead in times are not too long. They can change the spec on these slots up to a certain point, not sure how late, but 4 weeks to go seems very close to being able to do this as a car made next week won't be with you for a further 3 weeks. It may therefore be a cancelled order, seeing as it is basic XK, with no big extras. As for the import stickers, be careful there are independent companies bringing in 'UK spec' XK's from Holland which are some £8-10k cheaper. There is no real way to tell, but a Main Jaguar dealer shouldn't be selling imports to you. The only way to make sure is to ask. Get the order sheet which will tell you who ordered it, what spec and what date it is to be built. I had all this bumpf with my last new XKR, so it should be to hand. If you get an actual order number, call Jaguar and say you want to go to the factory to see your car being made. It is a 1/2 day and will be very memorable to see your car roll off the production line. The XK's are only made in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham.

I'd image that Jaguar would go absolutely ape if they found a main dealer grey importing cars. Manufactures claim they have different prices of pre-tax cars in Europe to try and balance out the differences in tac levels. Jaguar (or any manufacturer) would tend to feel they are subsidising say the Dutch customers here. If a main dealer was switching cars back into the UK like this then I'm sure they'd be in breach of their contracts. I also suspect the OFT would have something to say, unless the different price was being passed onto the customer. Europe might also look at evidence of this happening as a way of finally dealing with this stupid anomaly with car pricing.

Oh it's both all right.

It's not allowed on any other product or service sold within the EU, hence my claim that's it's an anomaly.

But it's certainly a rip off. If the likes of Tescos can be threatened with £2,000,000,000 fines for inflating the cost of a pint of milk by £0.03 per pint how come all the motor industry gets away with blatantly taking us all for a ride.

To be honest I don't believe for a moment you will be sold an import through Lancasters. I don't know what that ferry sticker means, they may all have it? You have not seen your car yet, nor have the paperwork to hand. I just wanted to give you info. For warned etc.

Your car will be fabulous. Personally I would not accept an import at any saving. Give the dealer a call to say your concern, after all he raised it in the first place and seek assurance. Check the V5 before you pay your money, you have the right.

I don't want to scare you in anyway, I don't work for Jaguar nor have dealership experience, but I do know I personally wouldn't want any doubts.

You will love the car that I do know for sure.

Questions shall be asked tomorrow. Hey the cars gorgeous so expect to be in the fold soon. Must confess the import type stickers plastered all over were a worry. Watch this space I guess.

Can I mention the XK Enthusiasts Club at http://www.xkec.co.uk/home/

There is a chat forum with plenty of members at your end of the world. Would be great to have another new XK owner over there and at meets.

Enjoy the experience and like I said go to the factory, it is excellent.

I would check exactly what is meant by 'ferry'. When I worked on the railways, 'ferry' was just a generic term meaning 'ready for movement', it didn't have anything to do with boats !

The company I used to work with, EWS railways, installed a multi-million pound railhead terminal at Castle Brom a few years back. We had Princess Anne up for the opening. It was on my patch and as part of the management team, I should have been at the opening, but had to attend to some suicide incident that morning instead. I was not happy !
