You're not looking at the red one in the Dec JEC magazine are you?

That's up for £7700, and there's another for sale at £5000, and another for £6000.

There's a rebuilt one on a new shell that needs finishing for £4500.

IMO the best looking Series Jaguar there ever was. What a car that would be if you put a modern V8 engine and 'box in it

Throw out a V12 for some lousy V8.... tut tut tut nono you should be ashamed of yourself.

There are some pretty exotic tuning options for the V12 if you want more power. More than the V8 can make.

Take a look at Duncan Hamilton's (won at Le Mans in 1953) site I know this engine is in an E-Type but you get the idea biggrin

I thought that that might upset you.. I agree it's a horrible thing to do but I was thinking of how much fuel a hard driven V12 on carburettors and a 3 speed auto box would use ...yikes

At least I didn't suggest putting a diseasiel engine in one vomit

Do you think that engine does miles per gallon or gallons per mile? drink

I understand it's not uncommon to take out Jaguar 4.2s and drop it diesel units. The army replaced all the ones in their Scorpions with Perkins turbo diseasels.

Several years ago I was on holiday in southern California. The owner of the hotel I was at had what was originally a V12 Coupe. He had made a lot of changes to it including switching to a V8 Chevvy engine, going to a "stick shift", beefing up the steering, suspension and brakes, fitting a magnificent set of black wheels, removing the fabric roof, painting the whole car a bright yellow, and having black windows. It looked absolutely the business! I didn't get a drive but I did get a ride...awesome and unforgettable...not Jag like though! R.

What about keeping the V12 and uprating the 3 speed slush box to a 4 speed? There is a conversion using the XJ40's 4 speeder available - but I'm not sure if there is a kit for the V12. There certainly is for the XK straight 6 and I might get one in the future for my 4.2 Daimler Sovereign. Got to get it on the road first though!

Or a later HE V12 engine with a modern 'box and higher gearing?

Realistically you'd need to achieve 20+ MPG to make one a sensible proposition, and it's a labour of love that would cost a fortune to do properly..

..and sort the electrics..

..window seals...

..rust...

Really well done project, with subtle Series 3 updates wound be good 'tho

This one has been my daily runner for the last two summers. cool
Fully restored in the early 1990s.
6.3L rebuild by AJ6 Engineering.
Utterly awesome motorcar. Everything in fully working order, including rear windows and AC.
Best ride quality of ANY car I've ever driven.
Properly quick, very, very thirsty!

The car that Beemer 5 was looking at TLC Jags is infact actually equipped with a 5.3 Lister tuned engine and a manual gearbox. It also has a very nice bodykit fitted and alloys wheels suiting the age of the vehicle. As it seems to have created some interest, when I finish the project, I will photograph it and put it on the Forum.

That's one stunning car Job38 bet that dents a few egos. Just glad I'm not paying the fuel bill :-)
