test drove the XF 2.7D Premium Luxury with 245/45/19 tyres this afternoon. Wet, muddy and gravel strewn roads after heavy rain, not to mention the potholes, proved a stern test of the car's handling abilities. I shared it with another customer, a long time S Type owner who was seriously impressed how good the car is in comparison. Compared to my XKR, the steering is pin sharp and the suspension supple with very little roll on fast corners. I also experienced no tram-lining even though the test route was in dire need of resurfacing. The gear changes were seamless, but even more impressive was an almost complete absence of engine, wind and tyre noise. Acceleration on kick-down was not disappointing either, even when compared to the XKR. Mrs B sat in the back and thought it was very roomy, even when my 6'2" frame was in the driving seat. The boot is enormous, particularly lengthwise.

Sat in a SV8 the a couple of weeks ago. Andy Whyman, the project engineering manager brought one down the the Oxford area JEC meeting on the 14th.
He was saying the European press launch which includes the Diesel should be around about now (sorry can't remember the date) down at Monaco. When all the journos got to drive cars in the Phoenix at the tale end of last year there were only V8s there, I guess they are the only models to be heading to the US market.
I got an invite from the dealer to come and have a look soon, can't remember that date either... sorry.
The car seemed pretty roomy, Andy is 6'3" (or was it 5, noticeably taller than me, I'm 6') and I could sit comfortably behind his seat. Driving position was very comfortable, but there was no opportunity to drive.
Styling looks much better in the metal than in pictures, I still think that's the case with the new XK.

Yes, as part of my job, so perhaps I could be described as biased.
"I am a bit young to drive a Jag (image wise)" Quotes like this do annoy me, especially when aimed at the most modern Jaguar since the E Type! It is precisely that age group that is of interest to the company. May have been said tongue in cheek though!
Slow, the diesel, are they mad? Slow it is not and I have yet to drive a diesel / auto combination as good as XF. Perhaps, as ever, the figures don't tell all of the story.
When more of the public gets to grips with the car the truth will out and the realization that this is a major land mark in Jaguar's history will become plain.
Wait until you see what is coming dear readers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got my attention. I need a sexy, 2 seater sports car/roadster, please. Cheaper and smaller than my XKR. Thank you Mr Jaguar. Wait until you see what is coming dear readers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would have one, and am only 19...although i have always liked jags, perhaps thats a bit strange but i just dont understand their old man image, so long as you avoid the cream leather and burr walnut.
Lovely cars, although whats the deal with the XFR that they are testing...4.0V8 supercharged is already out, so whats the new engine going to be, hopefully it can complete with the germans
next on the list is something to compete with the 3 series.

The new XFR will use the new 5.0L supercharged V8, that'll be good for 500+ BHP. I doubt a 3 series competitor is in Jag's future plans, autocar this week had a good article with the MD of Jag, the next big one will be the new XJ then hopefully after that we'll see the long awaited f-type. I think the future's bright for Jaguar

Nah... you've got to go for the cream leather in a black jag. Mine has black stained maple instead of walnut.Matthew_Eames said:

The X-Type was supposed to be that car. I friends other half was in marketing at BMW and they were really worried about Jag getting into the 3 series' territory. Sadly the X-Type didn't quite succeed as well as hoped. The British press didn't help... It's British - BASH IT!Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
