Oh, you're so harsh! When did the facelift come in? I'm not too bothered about the fact that it's an import: I have spoken to the leasing company ad it's pretty standard practice for them to buy abroad. But I agree that the lack of JSH should put me off it...
2003 came the facelift, does this car have the 4.2ltr?

Where was it imported from Belgium/Holland/Germany ok, but Cyprus etc. won't have the full corrosion treatment.

It should take a couple of months to find the right car, so take your time. After all buying is where all the fun is.

Imported from Germany with a PDI stamp at 13 miles by Jaguar of Aachen, GmbH. And it's 4 litres. I would prefer 4.2 (still missing the silent surge of the V12 in my XJS).

There you go then, don't buy this one. You may have problems with the timing chain tensioners. You should get the 4.0ltr tensioners changed straight away. (£1500-2000!)

Go for the a 2003MY face lifted car which not only has the 4.2ltr engine (400BHP on the XKR!), but also the new 6 speed ZF gearbox, which is far more economical. (30MPG on the m/way!)

Far better car. thumbup

Look at the car not from the view of a young lover in his first relationship but a wary old codger thinking of a third marriage! How long has he been trying to sell this car for example? There are so many cars out there for sale that this one, with no service history, an import, etc. stands out like a sore thumb. If that doesn't bother you then negotiate, but like my mate on his fourth divorce who we counselled never to get married again ever, he is now regretting that he didn't take our advice. He is completely broke by the way.

Hmmm, do leasing cars source most of their cars abroad or is this just a line they are spinning? Did the fourth wife come with full history and provenance? No in both instances would be my snap judgement, but for sure in one.

Sound advice, lowdrag. The (lack of) history probably means he would have to put the car in an auction to get rid. But those of us looking to get the last bit of bang for our dwindling buck might not be averse to buying at auction anyway (I have signed up to BCA's online service just in case the right car goes through at the right price). All I can say is that car looks ok and drives well (it covered 50 miles to get to me for a test drive) and the Jaguar PDI and MOT which are happening today just might be enough to get me involved.

I have spoken to the first owner/lessee who had the car from new for 3 years, and to the company which leased it to her (part of Royal Bank of Scotland) who said it was quite usual for them to import cars and also to dispose of them at auction. I also asked them if their leasing agreement included a stipulation that a new Jag for example should be serviced at a Jag dealership but it doesn't: lessees can service the car how they like (which surprised me).

So the 'history', as far as it goes, looks honest if not very satisfactory. Subject to today's revelations by the Jaguar garage, I could still be interested at the right price. At least the mileage (27000) looks right according to the three non-Jaguar service stamps and the three latest MOTs which I have seen.

MY is Model Year, it could have been available sometime back in 2002.
