hello there we chatted some time ago about xjs lister if you have got one is it the 5.3 ,6.0 or the 7 liter mark 3 wide bodied or is it the mark2.
if you need any info about car or other people who have these you can contact me on 07704588265.
have you had a look at the sills or the front crossmember or the footwells.
10grand for a engine rebuild and that is a lot of money.
the wheels if they are original lister you can not get these ive tried the manufacturer whose factory is up the road from where i live does not do these any more and if the rear tyres are 335/35/17 you are looking over 700 pounds for each tyre
time to go
did you get it from prestige classic cats.

Mark 3 Chassis number 001. Had 7.0 engine fitted when the second owner bought it off Lister. It was their press/demo car...originally silver grey.

Done 7500 miles and I'm the 3rd owner. Bought it from the second. Known the car since he bought it in 89/90. No rot...original wheels.

Just being fettled at the moment...will post pics when car returns.

Where are these cars residing? Where are the owners hanging out?

Is yours the one used in Fast Lane Magazines "Now hear this" in the late 80s? Great article/cassette of one driving around the track, along with the Aston Vantage, Porsche 959 and Countach.

Ahhh, the 80s....

It was useed in all the mags around 86/87 but later in the 80's it probably wasn't. If you're looking at the platinum grey car with red leather then yes it's the car.

Would like to see the test.....which one was it?

I'll have a look and get back to you. Its been a while since I've seen the magazine, but I should be able to find it again. I wish I had a tape-to-tape recorder as well...

Found it. My memory was playing tricks on me as its was not silver, but dark blue: F37 HGT.

Its a very complementary write-up, albeit brief. Contact me off-line and I'll send you the article. I dont need it any more. Have you got something which can copy the cassete as well???

I have owned a 1991 LHD lister le mans for 3 years, now 9600 miles, black and it lives in a dehumidified dust filtered garage. I have known the car from new use it most dry weekends and it has not been out in the rain for at least 10 years, has had servicing at a local specialist, new 335 rear tyres- the following link is a previous piston heads thread on my car a couple of years ago :
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... : if this link doesnt work search "lister le mans" and you'll find it posted by cy88 under photography. happy driving, just dont boot it in 2nd gear unless the road is dry-you have been warned.

Yes indeed...looks stunning...seen that thread before.

Unfortunately mine isn't black and is obviously and early car. Wonder how the values will go on these things in years to come?

difficult to value these cars, the le mans with no rear buttresses and very different rear window (aston martin I believe) seem to hover around £30k. Not a lot when you look at the original purchase price of £130k or more. Presumably people are put off by very little jaguar mechanicals remaining in these hand built cars with no Haynes manua for maintenace and repair ! The XJS conversions, MK III for example, also hand built but as usual it's all about condition and I've seen one at £20k but no idea what it sold for. Classic car depreciation seems to bottom out around the 15 year mark and then slowly climb, a slow burner for the future maybe.

10k seems cheap.......but the big question is condition and miles. There are a few complete rot boxes out there.

I think as has already been muted....these are probably due for a rise in values as the interest in 80's cars builds towards the end of this decade.

They were a stonking car and not many decent cars were created in the 80's.
