This may be reviving a dead thread but I found pictures of an Eventer that I took about 3 years ago in the car park of Guildford College in Surrey. Registration number ODD 913.

Don't know if anybody's noticed, but Lynx seem to be selling up. One of the items I noticed going through their website was the Eventer build records.

I thank you for that but it really comes as no surprise in the end. I see that the company is still nominally run by Tony Gott of Rolls Royce and Lotus in the past, but actually owned by Nigel Forsyth. He also owns Proteus, and I am unsure if they are still going either. Lynx never really got off the ground at all, never employed staff (apart from buying out Andy Thomas and his firm Classic Chassis, who built the chassis for my C-type) but he only lasted a short while and Lynx never employed anyone else on the manual side of things.I tried in the previous incarnation to get the build records of my Lynx cars but failed, and have tried with the latest owners, but have never got anywhere. It is sad to see it finally die completely but to build a Lynx today would cost more than the cars ell for second hand. I'd love to own the short nose buck though!

It is a shame as Lynx produced some wonderful cars. The Eventer has always been a favourite of mine (over the standard XJS), I saw a couple come through Derek Watson's workshop a few years ago when I used to go up there for parts.

As for their D-Types... I'd love one. A real D is beyond me in this lifetime, though a Lynx is a realistic aspiration. I was in awe of yours when I saw her at St Saturnin a couple of years ago.

The Eventers archives, build logs, marketing material, remaining spare parts and some remaining jigs are all safe and will be held together. We, being a group of Eventers owners, have bought them all with intention to complete the Eventer Register (see www.LynxEventer.com) and make these info's available to Eventers owners, journalists and enthusiasts. You'll apologize I did'nt communicate about that before everything was confirmed.

Buying these as one batch was made possible thanks to the kindness of Neville Swales and of Paul Skilleter. Special thanks to JB, Didier and Martin who helped me greatly in this quest.

With intention to keep as many Lynx archives together we also saved other files from being lost or sprayed all around the world : XJ6/12 Convertible, XJS Spyder, XJS Performer, and info's about some other conversions made by Lynx (some being well known as the 928 Porsche, Mercedes 500 and Saab 900 convertibles and other projects unknown to me until yesterday as a Saab 900 Estate, an XJ40 Estate, and more). I'll need time to read and scan everything but I already can say there are some amazing stories in these files...

Sadly Eventers have moved way outside my price range (and every time I think they might be near they edge away again) but it's really great to know that stuff like this is happening. Thank you smile

I'm currently in correspondence with Nigel Forsyth about the sale, and it is an interesting exchange of information. I must contact Pascal because one set of side windows already belong to an Eventer owner having been purchased from Mayston-Taylor but kept in stock by them.

Toad,
I know about these windows and about their owner, you don't have to tell me. FYI I haven't received them for free from Nigel Forsythe but bought them at a price which is very close to the price I should pay to order them today from the glass maker. I haven't robbed nobody but you can consider Lynx did, selling parts ordered and paid by customers and stored for them in their premises. You can also consider that these windows where sold 18 years ago and their owners never came to pick them up and didn't pay for storage. Who's wrong?
If you like to offer them to Petronel you're welcome to buy them back from me. BTW Petronel knows I have spares if needed to restore her Eventer... if that happens one day. And you know it will not!
We spent more than 3 years asking and dealing with Nigel Forsythe to buy the Eventer assets to save them while we had a gentleman agreement from Andrew Forsythe to sell us. It was a waist of time and lots of material was sadly lost in the movings of Lynx since John Mayston-Taylor stopped Lynx.

Sadly, in my correspondence with Nigel Forsyth, it seems quite a lot of the Lynx stock went missing after the move to Silchester from St. Leonards. Trouble is, there is no proof as to where it went or who filched it. Glad to hear though that the stock and records have ended up in the right place and with the right people.

Pascal, that wasn't mine I can assure you. Well at least I don't think it was mine since Pilkington still make them. It was invoiced to me on 13/12/2011 in the sum of £391.44 plus VAT and I was assured that it was sourced direct from Pilkingtons. However, normally glass is etched with a code showing the fabrication date so I went out and took a photo of the screen. Not a good photo, but it does show a date of 1967, but this seems to be just the British Standard mark with the kite mark alongside and nowhere is there a date of manufacture.

Obviously I can't say one way or another, since I am in France and the car was transformed in the UK. Curious though!

As said I only heard said...
There are amazing stories around Lynx and many may only be tales to make Jag lovers dreaming and tearing.

You like one? I know some more affordable ones for sale actually and in better condition (or let say restored closer to original specs).

Hi Phil,
I'll see if I can manage one or more Eventers to be there. On the same day will be the JDC E Type Register track day at Goodwood I intended to participate. Not far away but not easy to be on both places in the same time.

Straight from the Eventers Files comes Eventer N°23. Never seen or spotted in UK nor in Europe, it remained unknown til today because it was ordered by a Texan enthusiast. It's one of a kind as it was supplied for conversion to Lynx fitted with a V8 Chevy engine. It's still in the hands of its first owner.
