I'm in need of a new project, and I have a worsening hankering to a C type replica.

There seem to be a few companies doing them, anyone have any knowledge or expierance of ther relative merits of the companies involved?

Hi,
You are probably better off asking this question in the "Classic Car and Yesterday's Heroes" forum than in the Jaguar one. Although you might get answered here too.

A regular of the forum uses the handle Lowdrag, he's just completed (if that is the right word for anything to do with a classic car) a project to get an exact replica of the 1952 Lowdrag C-Types recreated. He also writes the column on replicas for the JDC.

There are quite a few options, depending on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend.

I understand the urge, I'd love one too. One day :-) but would that be before a D or after, now that is a difficult question.

For me, it would be a C or D (or XKSS) first.
Then an SS100.

If I could afford those, I could probably afford a real XJ220 and/or XJR15

XK180 would be nice too, but I'd need a full set, XK120, XK140, XK150 and XK180.
I wondered with there is enough information around to recreate the XK100 prototype?

for the time being I'll just keep enjoying my XK150 :-)

Suffolk do both an SS100 and a C Type. Their C Type has an accurate (GRP) copy of the original chassis, a body mould taken from an original (XKC 039), the suspension is torsion bar as per the original. Roger at Suffolk is keen to point out that his is the only kit that actually shares the original's exact dimensions. Other manufacturers like Realm and Nostalgia do make some fine examples too, but they use coil spring front suspension which isn't original but possibly works better, Nostalgia also do one with hand made aluminium body work too.

Youtube has some good videos, search for C Type Dawn Patrol for some straight six fun.

Not that I am hankering after one myself at all, no, I'm not honest.

Ask this question in the London section, and you may get a reply from a chap called Freddie von Rost who has one. He brought it to the North London / Herts meet the other week and it stole the show.

We supply power units to TWRR which build rather nice examples both in grp or all aluminium. Here is his link. http://www.twrreplicas.com/c-type.html He has one on display this weekend at Silverstone Classic along side the XJ13 recreation and a Alloy D-type.

Hi Bertie, I know there is a manufacturer of quality C Types in all aluminium called Legends Classics ltd, they are based in hereford, I have been to their factory unit and wow what a car! its a two door not single door, built with Jag XK 4.2 polished cam covers all correctly done, I believe a few inches wider than original but you would have to be an expert to tell! I also think its IRS suspension with tremec 5 speed gearbox, anyway a great car i think their web site is legendsclassics.com, I dont know if they sell in kit form though give them a try! Beats a glass fibre pig by a mile, you want a good replica not a kit car!! Proteus Cars Ltd were a good car too but I think they went bust a few years ago. Anyway good luck with your dreams of C Type ownership! Kaz

The hankering is unlikely ever to go away until you have one. I saw a couple of Cs at Goodwood last Thursday absolutely gorgeous.

You'll probably get more joy on C-Types in the "Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes" forum.
