Hi All,
This is my first post in the Jaguar forum. I've been a long term BMW driver and my last 2 cars have been M3s. I've been trying to decide what my next car should be eg 996, 997 or E92 M3 when I saw an XKR-S on the road. I orginally saw one at the 2008 motor show and really liked it. The idea of an XKR appeals to me as I want something which is smoother to drive than an M3. Has anyone owned an XKR-S? I know a little about them eg 200 made world wide and only 50 in the UK. They seem to be about £10K more than the standard XKR. Are they worth it? I'm going to test drive one in the next week, are there any areas I should look out for?
Thanks in advance.
Stuart

Different wheels, different body kit and altered suspension settings are the only differences to a stock XKR I believe, so you are paying a premium for exclusivity. If it were my cash, I'd stick with a regular 4.2 XKR (or stretch for the 5.0l version if you can! )
A little Bit more than that... XKR-S - Re-restricted to 174mph top speed.
Bespoke steering rack/tune - Bespoke Instrument cluster - Seats with R-S embossed head rest - Full Piano Black Interior set - R-S Treadplates - Alloy pedal kit - Alloy gear surround. Make sure they are all there when you view the car...
(20" Forged Wheels - don't be tempted to kerb them [eyewatering]) and a brake (6-pot Alcons) and suspension set-up that was originally XKR-S bespoke and then added to 4.2XKR run-out cars as "Dynamic Pack".
If you try and tart up a standard XKR - even if you could source the parts (some are VIN protected at Unipart ) it would cost you more than 10K s/h premium assuming buying the parts new. Exclusive and Very desirable car - only 200 built.

Stuart, would like to know your thoughts between the two you tried.
The 5.0 with adaptive dynamics I would agree is a better car, but a nice one of these are about £10k more than an XKR-S, which is £10k more than regular XKR. My ideal is the 5.0 Speed Pack XKR, which has everyting good about the XKR-S, with everything good about the 5.0 XKR, but these are £10k more again!

To be honest it was simply the power delivery, you can really feel the additional BHP. I also found the ride much smoother. I know they're alittle more expensive but I've seen some on the used car locator today for about 5K more but I think/hope I could haggle the price down. I agree one with a speed pack would be nice but you're looking at 65K then

Because they are seen as a bit more special they certainly are commanding premium prices. A run out 4.2 with very similar options, bar the bodykit is less money and 1 yr newer. I guess they will sell for what someone is prepared to pay. I know how much I will spend on one.
As for the 5.0, I believe it to be the much better car. I will see how the XKR-S hunt goes. The 5.0 XKR's have just slipped below £50k, soon they will be cheaper than a 2 year old XKR-S, which has to be wrong.

Buy one and do this to it: http://www.spires-st.com/assets/XKR-S.pdf
