Great posts! Thanks.

I must admit that I could be interested in a GTi Engineering, BRM, Oettinger etc Golf if I saw one come on the market.

as with all interesting vws , you need to be in the right place at the right time !!!
actively searching for one only yields results once you've spent the money on something else after giving up smile

the oettinger mark1 was found on online autotrader whilst looking for a mark1 campaign for a friend . the guy selling it didnt really know what it was . i asked him to fax the log-book and after a qick call to oettinger to confirm the engine number i wired him the cash smile
it now resides with richy in middlesbrough . (i hope)

the mark2 oettinger was found following a tip-off from a guy in london i think i was buying some mark1 parts off .
it now resides with thomas .

the gti engineering came from an old school-friend that knew i was into vws.
the car was scrapped but the engine resides in trimsports mark1 (or used to last i knew)
i delivered it to lance in my golf2 diesel van at vw northwest in tatton park .

the brm came from a stranger that saw i was into vws .
i'm not sure where that one went .
i remember i swapped the janspeed manifold off it for a bentley corrado manual with richie at karman-konnection .
i think it ended up on danny allen's orange mark1 .
maybe that car was also the early gti .
my memory is hazy .

the early 1600 4speed gti (june 79 iirc , S reg when most waited for the new T reg a couple of months later) was offered to me by a stranger that saw i was into vws .
it now resides in preston (or did)

the cabrio was the last to go .
it was sat on my driveway for ages covered in a tarp with the engine and box removed .
one weekend i was home and on the driveway when a car stopped .
the guy had driven past lots of times but i was never home and he wanted to buy the rear clipper bumper for a clipper cab he was restoring , he weas real happy to finally catch me to ask if it was forsale .
by this time i was really p++e+d-off with neighbours dropping eyesore himts everytime i was back in england , and i knew i was never going to finish it .
so i told him he could have the bumper if he took the whole car smile

i had promised to 6speed quattro gearbox out of it to ian+janet for free if the picked it up at dubfreeze one year when we werer talking about venoms 20vt lupo that they had bought .
they could have that and the head for free if they picked it up .
it went in the back garden when i cleared out my garage and they never got in touch .
it got stolen probobly for scrap .
the head and all though other parts i had went to the guy who bought the oettinger mark2 .
the deal we struck was that he could only buy the car if he brought a van and took all though other vw junk out of my house .

anything that belonged to the mark1 oettinger was put to one side for richy to collect after he bought the car .
i was away in dublin and he bought it over the phone having seen it the day i transported it back from london .
it came with the zender kit as shown in the photo , and a twin 7" zender grill .
richy at the time was looking for zender stuff and parts to make a 16v mark1 so we arranged i would take it off for him to buy .
he was very eager and as i was driving back from london with the car he was driving down from middlesbroughg smile
he said the famous "let me know if you ever want to sell the car" thing , but it was a keeper (at the time)
i also offered him the oettinger mark2 later as i knew it would be going to a good home ,
but it never happened .

IAN..... this is exactly what i was after, some SERIOUS information!!
im in ireland and bought the car over here too,its still on the same reg (for now) but it went from scotland to northern ireland and eventualy to myself. i have not done much to the car sence i bought it but their is some TLC to be done .ie electrics are dodgie (1 window, mirrors and front fogs).. the engine runs great but really needs to be cleaned up properly and their is a small bit of bubbling starting to come up under the rear door i would also like to put the oreginal front grill back on.. any ideas where they can be bought new??? i have the two oettinger sticker you took off they came in the history box but are a bit far gone to put back on so yea i would be interested in buying your ones if you still have them..the rear seat hasn't got headrests anymore and theirs no leather in the car either, is this the way you sold it?? the exhaust is scorpio the whole way through and it still has the eibach coilovers in it (that deffo dont suit irish roads) but ive a full set of new ones to go in.The ins certs you asked about are in the folder too but the okuasa/powerhaus stickers are gone.... thanks very much for your reply id be very interested in gettin more info from u in the future..... heres a few more picks of her today as she stands

Great info Ian - well remembered! Do you have any more details of your mk1 16s and other VWs, it sounds like you have had a good share of rare VWs.
