I noticed when I put my winter wheels on a couple of weeks ago that the front pads on my 2006 3.0tdi quattro avant were well down. As if to confirm my observations the dashboard warning light came on yesterday.
As I happened to be passing, I went into my local motor factors to pick some up, only to be told that there are 3 posssible pad shapes fitted to my car .
Short of taking the rascals out, is there any way of ascertaining exactly which replacement part I need?.

As above, speak to Audi, or your nearest VW TPS, they pretty much deliver nationwide.

There will be something called the "PR" number in the service book or handbook. This is used on some VAG models to help narrow down the choices. I've just had a look and you can also id on the size of the discs:

I checked the fronts

PR 1LT = 314mm discs and the below pads

PR 1LD 1LG 1ZL 1ZH = 321 or 327mm discs will use the below pads

PR 1LJ = 385m discs have these pads

Hope this helps

No probs, let me know if you want part numbers for Mintex or Textar, you can then order from one of the many sellers on ebay etc

Don't use mintex unless you want the pads to squeak a lot. 15000 miles in and mine have started squeaking again after going away at about 8000 miles.

Struggling to find a PR number.
I can find VIN, model designation, engine and gearbox codes, paint codes and more than forty 3 digit alpha numeric optional equipment codes,
but as yet no PR number.

It should be one of the three digit codes you have on the list

you can check them out on here http://prsearch.planetvag.com/

hopefully one of the codes matches one of the options for the pads, i've fit Mintex before with no issues, also the same with Textar, ATE, Brembo

Same car as mine, I went for a set of EBC red stuff.

Fantastic brakes. Minimal fade compared to the standard brakes and slightly less brake dust, oh yeah, and they grip like (insert comedy reference here)

Supplier didn't stock either of the above, but by referencing those part numbers I got
Ferodo FDB1629
Which is what I've just put in. smile

Is your search engine broken?
