Saying that, mines a company car,so I'm not as worried as others rightly are,
I enjoy driving the car,and have gotten to quite like the gearbox. At an indicated 80 on the motorway for about 2 hrs yesterday it returned 42 MPG,so pleased with that.
Other issues : Petrol tank is pretty small, and the input for the USB stick on mine has stopped working.

Same engine in those.
Another Fabia vRS owner here, but one without issues. My car was made in about June last year, sat in a showroom before being registered as a demo/dealership car in September. I bought it with 3000 miles on it in early Jan, have put another 3000 on since. I keep an eye on the oil (and have a litre in the boot just in case) but had no need to top up yet.

Well I was all ready to buy the Polo gti I test drove but then after web research decided against it. It's a great car but vw need to sort this issue quick-sharp!
I'd also been looking at the Ibiza Cupra and A1 (185bhp) but assume there are problems here too?
I read about all the issues and still bought one, and I have had no issues.I'd also been looking at the Ibiza Cupra and A1 (185bhp) but assume there are problems here too?
Don't let it put you off!
They are good engines, can be really economical when you drive it sensibly and has a bit of pace when you put your foot down!
I must be one of the few reading through this poll without issues. Admittedly again I have a Fabia vRS. I have got 6000 miles on the clock with varied driving, and it hasn't even used a litre of the stuff yet. It does seem a bit like pot luck with whether you get a good one or a bad one!

Sorry Tony, but why would I take the risk of owning one of these problematic cars with all these issues and pay money on top of my Ed30 for the privilage?I know I 'may' be one of the lucky few that doesn't have an issue but alas you'd be hard pressed to find a person who wants to inherit motoring problems just so I can visit my VW dealer every other month and look forward to an engine rebuild.
If the car had proven to be a cracker (which it would've been without this issue) then I'd have a case for changing, but sadly I'll give it a miss.
To the current owners on here, I really do hope VW do the decent thing and give you all a new engine when the revised one comes out!

Honestly the same kind of argument crops up everywhere, you only read when people are complaining about it, think of how many there are out worldwide that have not had problems. And apparently now they are using new parts which fix the problems.I know I 'may' be one of the lucky few that doesn't have an issue but alas you'd be hard pressed to find a person who wants to inherit motoring problems just so I can visit my VW dealer every other month and look forward to an engine rebuild.

Your decision though. And Tbh your GTI is pretty tasty, I'd keep it! :P
Hi
Having had a sirocco tsi from new 2009
As for oil consumption in the first 6000 miles it was going through 1 lt per 1000 miles!! But this stopped after the first service
And as for tyres three sets of fronts in the first year!!
Yes I have a heavy right foot ….. As I did in my teens in the early 80s LOL!!
