There is a know issue with rough idle and white smoke when the engine idle for a long time, but you wouldnt get hunting, just uneven idle like a slight misfire.
Be interested to know what you find.
My a4 with same engine did the white smoke in a long motorway jam last week and scared me silly but fine since lolBe interested to know what you find.
Fix for if? Idle goes lumpy occasionally.

Well an update... plus all work listed I've changed my glow plugs and cold starts/first of the day no hunting revs! ...still have one of the glow plugs to change, only done 5 so far... they did not show is as faulty in VCDS scan... all which done have been visually inspected and not signs of damage... all have same P/N and ageing so my opinion they must be the original factory fit ones so 8yrs/80k miles old...
In between temps ie 50 -70 can still get small flutter occasionally, when it happen by small amount egr actual vs specified in MVB 03 of module 01 is out...
Will soon be doing a decoke of EGR/Intake system...
But for now happy days!
