You'll be fine with the loom - it's not that complex on a Mk1. Be logical and label everything up, and you can usually re-install it more tidily than it was in the first place.

If you remove the seat covers they come up beautifully in a washing machine. Take all the wires out first tho'. And make sure you have a look at the colour of the water as it washes - it will be quite unbelievably dirty! (Literally the colour of hot chocolate.)

Came on here to discuss my recent order of MK7 Golf GTI and saw this thread.

Just have to say, this is amazing, very envious of your skills and can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks mate!

I have been doing a few hours on the Golf over the last week or so and will update with pictures soon.

The dash is now in, the carpets are in, the seat belts are in, the sunroof drain pipes have been cleaned and put in etc etc

I have just ordered a new headlining so will be fitting this later this week.

Cheers

Ha, funnily enough I was in here for the same reason.

Was at the Techno Classica in Essen and the standard of some of the cars drew me into this thread for a 'what does it take' investigation.

I have my Lupo GTI which I haven't kept as mint as I should have as its a daily driver. I'm never selling it, so one day I'm contemplating preserving it as best I can. But maybe not to this standard!

Will follow the thread with interest.

Hi Trooper,

Very impressive work so far! It's a long process seeing a full rebuild all the way through I know.

You have a great looking garage as well!

Who do you know?

The previous owner of the shell or the donor car?

Do you still have the doner shell and if so would you be willing to help save another mk1? My mk1 needs a new roof skin with factory fitted sunroof if you can help?

Hi
As per my e-mail reply.

When the shell is totally stripped (another week or so) you can have it!

Another incredible job. I think I'd enjoy re-building it when everything is nice and new; I don't have anywhere near the patience needed to get it to this point though.

It's a shame you couldn't keep the Fiesta alongside it - they would have made a very enviable pairing! smile

Hi Guys
I have not updated with pictures for quite a while even though progress is being made.....

Dash in:

Carpets in:

This is the fabric removed from the back of the rear seats. As you can see it has shrunk with age:

New fabric purchased:

Cut and glued:

Re-fitted!:

Headling. Big Job...
This is the old and the new. Even though this is the correct new headlining for a sunroof model, you even have to cut out the sunroof section. Fitting a headlining in a mk1 is not a quick and easy task.

A fair bit more has now been done which I will photograph in the next day or so. The headlining is complete along with the A, B and C pillar sections. The rear bench is in along with the door cards, all seat belts and rear trim.
The boot lid is on as well as the sunroof which is fully fitted and functional.

Cheers
