VW Golf GTi MK1 Restoration
Discussion
Hi
All the work in the following pictures was completed a few months ago.
I did a bit last weekend where I installed brand new copper brake lines.
Now you are up to date when I start cracking on again properly (next week) I will update with pictures much more frequently.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Unfortunately I will really need the cash so the Golf will be sold as soon as it is completed
I may even put an advert on e-bay now with a link to the thread and state 'open to offers now for when complete'
Cheers.
As you can see there are lots of new bits! The headlining looks good, all new decals and boot vinyl.

The badges are back on
The rear number plate lights have been fitted
Here you go!:

Hi Guys
I have really been up against it with the Golf. The reason for this is that the photographs are being taken this Thursday for the auction catalogue. Cosmetically it needs to be right for Thursday but I will then have until the 26th of August to finish everything as the auction is on the 30th.
For those interested it will be sold at Brooklands in Weybridge. Search Historics on-line and you will find the catalogue.
Ok, since the last time I posted, the wheels have been refurbished and are better than new, the brake callipers have been refurbished and are also better then new.
Cosmetically the car is nearly complete, just the wipers to fit and a few bits and pieces.
Mechanically the brakes need to be set-up, lots of electrical jobs need completing before going for an MOT and rolling-road set-up.
Enjoy the pictures!:

Nice work.
2 things :-
why have you left the stone chips in the grille rail?
is the silver for the wheels the original silver? I worked at VW many years ago and it looks very light compared to how I remember them..

The chips are to be touched in, not sure how they happened but they will be dealt with!
Yep, alloys are original shade! It will be the light in the pictures
Cheers
For those interested, this is the link to the Golf in the on-line catalogue at Historics, Brooklands who are holding the auction:

What about seeing whether 4Star Classics would sell it on a commission basis.
HiThey have sold a car for me before and they do go for good money.
They can though take 6 weeks ish to sell and to be totally honest I could do with the cash.
They have a restored Lhasa Green one for sale at the mo and they are asking 13k!
Cheers for the idea though!

If I only I had the space, and the cash.
Good luck with the sale Trooper, hope to see you on here again someday with another project, always an interesting read.

There are some lovely people on Pistonheads
I have had a few enquiries on the Golf so fingers crossed it will sell soon.

Ok, have you tried the classifieds on carandclassic.co.uk? I managed to sell my mother's mint low mileage mk 2 8v quite quickly there, for the (bullish) asking price.
Apols if this is egg sucking territory...
(If only we were two years from now - for boring reasons I'd snap this up. Any chance you'll have another one in two years? ;-) )
Ha ha, think this is the last project for the time being!Apols if this is egg sucking territory...

I put it on Car & Classic this afternoon, funny enough with a link to this thread!

Have you had any takers?
HiI had a fair bit of interest but I have decided to make the car 110% before I sell it.
I had to rush to try and get it finished and that's not right.
I have to sort out the gear linkage, get the camber and tracking set, fit a new fuel pump and a few other small jobs.
Then I will use it myself for a week to make sure all is well.
I will then be able to advertise it knowing it is all good!
Cheers
Well after almost a year I have still not got the golf finished lol
I called into see my mechanic this morning and have booked the car in with him at the end of the month to get it finished. I will then sell it immediately.
The last time I was at the garage I fitted a used Golf GTi mk2 16v gear box as the gear selection issues I think were down to the box.
My mechanic will:
Sort an earth fault and get it running well
Set up the gears
Fit a new dash binnacle; I removed the old one as the temperature gauge did not work
Set the tracking
Any other bits and pieces that need sorting
Any interested parties please PM me.
I may put a link on e-bay as well. I do not mind selling it as it is now and the new owner can do the work.
Cheers
