Today I went and collected my first ever Audi... a V8 S5. I've always been a Bimmer man and have been contemplating adding an Audi to my garage for ages.
I saw it on the Audi website yesterday, put down a deposit, went to see it today, paid my money and it is now sitting on my drive!
First impressions after a very smooth 100mile motorway trip are that it feels like it will be a great mile muncher; the ride is firm but not too harsh; the engine and exhaust note sound brilliant but possibly a bit too 'refined' AND most most importantly a rear facing child seat fits in the back!
I managed to get the dealer to pay for a years road tax and a new set of tyres on the rear (going to get it done at my local Audi dealer this week).
I do have a question for other S5 owners- can you check your brake calipers front and rear as on mine only the front ones have the S5 logo on them and I'm wondering if the rears are replacement pattern parts- if so I will be getting them to change them too as I don't think they should be supplying a car with parts not covered by the warranty.
When the rain stops I will post some pics if people are interested. It's Meteor Grey with Magma Red leather and has some nice options too!
Edited to add: I've noticed there is an Audi Music Interface port in the glove box - can I connect my iPhone 4s to it? If so does anyone know how much the cable is and where I can get one from?

Only the front calipers have a logo and the rears do tend to look a little cheaper so I'm sure yours are all Audi OEM The usual answer to 'tame exhaust' is simple -> get a Milltek

I didn't want to keep plugging in the iphone. Works a treat! I'm also contemplating swapping the 3.0tdi for a V8. I'm doing 18k miles a year, so the fuel costs may stop me.

Map the 3.0 and go V8 baiting Audi exhausts are always a little tame; Milltek adds minimal power but you'll be driving around everywhere with a silly grin!

Reminds me I need to raid the secret account and see what I can do with the S4. I'm sure the wife won't notice

Yes but it's still a diesel....knocks like a diesel....and generally sounds droll. My Bimmer is a diesel and I love it for what it does- cheap miles with loads of torque but certainly not something I'd take out for a hoon as it just doesn't get my juices flowing! I'm a a petrolhead at heart and I love the velvety burble of a nice V8! Diesels are great as a workhorse but just don't do it for me for fun- no matter what the torque or 0-60 /50-70 times are!

You are quite correct, the 3.0 is surprisingly good fun but it still isn't a V8

Seems strange that a main dealer has supplied a car with a non standard part on it and didn't mention it. I'm guessing this has warranty implications??? I don't want to get caught out and have a claim rejected because a non OEM part has been fitted. Best course of action? Should I email the respective dealer and get something in writing to cover myself? Having had the car a few days I've gone over it with a fine tooth comb and it is now booked in with the main dealer for them to correct at cost; a new rear tyre (they changed one side but not the other-see above), remove small dent in boot lid, look at both front lights as they contain debris so obviously they arent sealed properly, straighten steering wheel which is turned about 5 degrees to the left when driving straight and there are also 3 fixings on underside of the rear bumper missing that should tie it to the underside of the car. I must admit I am disappointed that all of the above list was not picked up by the main dealer 145 approved car check. Not a great first impression of Audi.

They probably didn't check the car over before you paid your deposit so given how quickly you collected it didn't get the full pdi Milltek shouldn't be an issue ref warranty and unlikely to fail in any case so long as fitted properly You can pick up ami cables on eBay pretty cheap but I'd be looking to the dealer to supply you some foc given the issues and they should be with the car in any case

I was told the car was ready to go hence acting so quickly- I did see the work list of what had been done which is why one tyre had been replaced. I argued both tyres on same axle should be done at same time as new on one side and 4mm on other is a no no.

dasherdiablo1 said: Lovely car had mine 12 months and very chuffed with it. No S5 sticker on rear calipers ( just nipped out to check) You can plug your iPhone 4 in using the AMI cable and it will still even receive calls via blutooth. Best get the cable from the dealer tho as there are two types (dependant on age of car) and sods law says you'd buy the wrong one off eBay!

Had mine just under a year now, excellent piece of kit.
Looks like a decent spec you have B&O, heated seats, nav.
I would contest the ipod cable with the dealer (my AUC S5 came with a cable already connected) surely that's like giving you a car with 4 wheels but no tyres ???
Rear LED light upgrade might be worth a punt and ask your dealer for a discount due to the items not picked up in the multi point check.

Yes it's got lots of nice options - but I must be honest and say I don't know what is standard and what is extra. The one thing I know it doesn't have is cruise control which is a bit of a shame as these days it is very useful!
