What's the starting point for MK6 GTI's price wise and what year did they start? Prices seem to be a little all over the shop from what I can see.

Are there any worthwhile extras to look out for, and as per the MK5 do they need to be run on super?

Cheers

Just started looking myself (for 5 dr but assume 3dr won't be far off), seems to be May 09 ish for very first cars, prices start from £14.5k for "normal" mileage.

I don't run my MK5 GTI on Super and it runs fine.

Thanks for replies; so about 15k (ish) and OK on standard unleaded, what should they get 30-35mpg day to day and 35+ on a (cautious) run?

What extra's were there??

Cheers

I get that with my MK5, so you should get that with a MK6 (more power, better economy).

The ECU should be able to cope with whatever UK petrol you chuck in it. The timing will just advance/drop back depending on what the engine's sensors tell the ECU the fuel type.

I got 38mpg in a MK6, the engine is definately better on fuel.

Interesting, do all MK6's have the same engine, even the early ones?

With that sort of figure it almost negates the cost against my current MKV GT TDI..........

All come with the same EA888 engine.

The more I look at these (black/red 3dr) the more I like these, anyone else had one and have any good or bad stories to share??

Only thing I've noticed is that other than regularly upgrading to the 18" wheels (presumably better ride on 17's??) very few seemingly have anything over base spec.....I'd really like a sunroof, cruise & parking sensors.

Cheers

I drive a MK5 and have driven the MK6 on an extended loan.

I cannot think of any fundamental problems with the MK6 (things like ESP and aircon finally having been fixed) you will see DSG problems on the dedicated forums.

Only get the 18" wheels if you are sure not to curb them!

Dealers will have the odd loaded model still around, check vw.co.uk and specialist forums will have stuff like this

Sunroof is very very rare so you will have to compromise on other stuff.

Thanks for reply. Manual only for me, are the 18's diamond cut, only the ones on my 2.0TDI are and they've badly corroded?!

Oddly VW don't seem to have any!

Shame sunroofs are rare, I understand why for many with AC but I'd love a car with one again, in that respect cars from the 90's were better!

I get 34mpg from a Golf R so don't see why you wouldn't beat that with a GTI

Thanks for details re MPG, with the official at 38.7MPG, call it 39 it's just about at the magic figure of 40MPG at which I said if I could find something interesting petrol wise I'd go back to it!

If the front bumpers have 'cut outs' by the lights does that mean it has winter pack? Jets, heated nozzles & heated seats? I notice quite a few have these but no mention of this extra?

These are part of the headlamp wash for the Xenons. Not sure if these are part of the Winter pack - I'd think not.

So that'd mean the car has xenons then, or did they all have them?

I think the GTI could only have washers WITH xeons lights, that's what the pricelist says.

Many thanks, from looking many are advertised as basic spec but do have a few additional things not always noted. Good to find out more about them as time goes on.

Take this one for example, dead in the centre below the lights is the 'cut out' to which I refer. A mate had a MK5 GT TDI with winter pack which had these.
