Thread resurrection...

Anyone here own a recent Skoda Superb?
Im about to pull the trigger on 2014 facelifted 'hatch', after owning Octavia Vrs estate for 6 years. Octavia has been good but time for a change. I dont use the performance & to be honest its pretty noisy due to tyre roar etc. So I'm looking for something a bit more confort orientated.
The Superb is the 2 litre diesel, 140bhp. Looks a lot of car for the money (9000 miles & 10k off new list price)
I know it wont set the world alight with performance, but are these easy to live with? They seem big cars in the flesh but on paper only marginally bigger that the Octavia.
I read that a new version will be out later this year, but the 2014 looks OK to me..
Any real life comments from owners appreciated
Quite a bit longer than the Octavia (Had both) and feels bigger on the road, its mainly in the rear seat area so pretty useless if you dont use the rears. We have the 170 which has been remapped so no lack of performance it goes very well indeed. We dropped from the 18" wheel to the 17" more due to numerous pothole incidents but the 17" 's do ride well

Ours has been excellent its to be traded in this month after almost 6 years and 85,000 miles and its been excellent , it has an appetite for batteries (2 replacements) and apart from 1 faulty dpf pressure sensor during warranty its been faultless , not even blown a bulb

Thanks for that, there doesnt look much in it on paper, Superb 17cm longer if my sums are right...

Octavia
External dimensions Length (mm):4,659 Width (mm):1,814

Superb
External dimensions Length (mm):4,833 Width (mm):1,817

Is it smooth & comfortable?

I wonder if you're comparing MK3 Octavia? If my memory serves the MK2 Octavia was about 8/9 inches shorter than the Superb. I've not been with Skoda for about 5 months now though.

Believe it or not I gave up a 997C2S for a 170bhp TDI manual 4x4 Superb Elegance hatch ... On arrival of anklebiters

One of the best cars i've ever owned. Big, comfy, yet more fun in the twisties than you might think, well equipped and cheap.

Now run around in a 225bhp 2.0TFSI manual Q5 Sline Plus ... nowhere near as good as the Skoda.

Only thing is I hear they don't do the 4x4 in manual any more - so not sure i'd go back. Unless maybe they put the oily bits of the new Golf R in one (missus has of these on order and trying to convince her to have the Q5 instead - she aint stupid though - guess that's why i married her!)

Mine is now coming up to 3 years old and it continues to be the perfect 'normal car'. Its large but if you are after a larger car then that's perfect. There is indeed a MK3 due later this year with new engines and new bits. If you were thinking of buying new I'd suggest you wait but if you are getting a good deal on a used model go ahead.

Some good deals there, wish I had a heated windscreen on the recent cold mornings!

I have a 2011 (2012 model) Superb 1.8 TSI petrol manual 4x4 SE Estate, very good car.

Ride is smooth on 17s, seats are comfortable for me and don't make my back ache like some and I think the Alcantara on the SE looks and feels better than than the leather on the Elegance models.

It's a long car so lots of legroom in front and rear but not overly wide, so middle rear seat is small and you have a low transmission tunnel. Huge boot in twindoor/hatch and the back of the estate is almost too big.

Parking is fine as it's not too wide, rear parking sensors are a must, I also have front sensors as part of parking assist. The front sensors are useful but not essential and they are very conservative. Parking assist I just don't use at all.

The Superb was initially conceived as a car/limo for Czech government types so handling is for comfort, so it won't feel as firm as a GTI/VRS. With 225 wide tyres it grips well so it does not slide around but there is body roll, however it handles just fine for it's size.

Steering is light (electric assistance so not much feel). Brake pedal has slightly longer travel and does not bite aggressively with factory spec pads.

Servicing cost is not too bad, I paid £350 for 2 years servicing (1 major, 1 minor) plus 2 MOTs from my local main dealer.

Mine's a 2012 model and is an SE spec, which is pretty well specced up. Heated seats/windscreen/washers is the optional Winter Pack. The car has a proper luxury feel with a lot of little extras I've not seen on anything else - such as ambience lighting in the footwells, little LED lights behind the interior door handles to show where they are, separate rear heating vents in the B-pillars and a separate clock/outside temp gauge and 12V socket for the rear passengers. And don't forget the umbrella in the rear passenger door!! Rear parking sensors are standard but not front - but the rear are more useful. The sound system is pretty good as well.

Currently have a Superb estate 140 tdi elegance, replaced a mondeo ST. Cheap to run, impressive level of kit. First service £102, Skoda have been a pleasure to deal with.

Best family car on the market, bags of space, bike rack on top mirrors the Tour de France team cars.

Looked at other vag group offerings, plus merc/BMW but simply put you are paying for the image.

I'm very pleased with the car. Very compliant ride & acres of space. The old Octavia was great, but a little noisy & crashy on Britain's Beirut style road surfaces. I guess the 17'' wheels on the Superb help too.
I had a BMW 5 series a few years back (RFTs) but the Superb rides a lot better. No regrets!
