Car choice - TT RS or B7 RS4 or R8 V8?
Discussion
I own an RS4, extensively driven a TT-RS Coupe and had a wonderful day-long test drive of an R8 V8.
TT-RS felt slightly quicker than the RS4 - and since driving one I have had a little encounter with a TT-RS S-Tronic, it pulling about 2 cars lengths on the RS4 up to 120mph (closed circuit before anyone thinks otherwise! )
I found the brakes were not as good as the RS4.
Handling was a little better.
Gear change not as slick, IMO.
5-pot engine sounds glorious, although I am a sucker for a V8.
Fuel consumption is better (as you may expect), but I found it rather annoying that Audi added the "Eco" gear suggestion thingy on the dash. While I am picking holes with this point, I did wonder why Audi chose to include this feature on an RS model.
As an everyday form a transport that looks good and is very subtle but blistering quick, it's fantastic.
For me, though it just lacked that "something" you can never describe.
RS4 has been superb over my near-4 year and 50,000 mile ownership.
Driven in every condition on road, taken it to the track, driven in the Alps many times, long continental journeys and it's been wonderful.
Average 250-280 miles from a tank.
Lovely engine (and exhaust!) note.
It's a quite a heavy car so while handling is truely excellent, you do notice the heft in quicker corners and heavy braking situations.
I will admit that the interior is starting to look a bit dated in comparision with the most recent models, but you shouldn't notice that when comparing it with the TT or R8.
R8 was a fantastic machine.
The engine from the RS4, but it felt and sounded even better.
Mid-range performance wasn't noticeably different to the RS4, to be honest.
Off the mark it felt quicker and the "sensation" of speed is more prevalent.
Handling was in a completely different league. The greater rear wheel drive bias on the R8 makes for fun.
The gearbox is better than the RS4 - go for a manual. There's no greater childish pleasure than "click-clacking" through the gears
To sum up:
TT-RS if you want something more compact and subtle than the other two.
RS4 if need up to five seats.
If not, R8 V8.

I agree with the last 2 posts.
Given the choice of those 3 and one is an epic V8 supercar I think nearly 100% given the choice would have an R8
people have an RS4 because - they need rear seats, they take it to a work car park and need something more subtle, IT COSTS LOTS LESS TO BUY!
Ditto TTRS - I presume people buy this as they can't afford an R8 and like a coupe... no V8 though!!

Yes it's a serious question.
Hhmmmm R8.
Getting an R8 would necessitate having a second car - not really an issue but a consideration.
Getting either an RS4 or a TTRS would not. I think I could cope with the TT as a daily driver - biking requirements may be a bit of a push. The RS4 would cover all the bases so to speak. The only issue would be mpg for a daily driver.
The first reply was very helpful.

Out of those three it has to be the R8. I'm sure it would be practical for most days, there's a guy in Ely runs a Lambo as a daily; even in snow.Hhmmmm R8.

Make the spare car a contrast, something interesting or at least really useful.
A battered old Landrover, 205GTI, mini, Polo/Golf GTI, Skoda VRS, Transit, VW camper, XJ6, MX5. The list is long.
I'll still have the Beast, turning up for a survey in an R8 doesn't project the right image.
I like to keep my cars for a while. I keep flopping between the three. Oddly enough, from my point of view / how I expect things to go, the TT is the least practical.
I'll get some insurance quotes, they may focus the mind!

Wait for it. Prepare to be amazed;
It's a '99 VW Bora. With an 8v 2.0l n/a engine churning out a rip snorting 120bhp.
You know it be true man.
Bit of a ratter at the moment. Front wing was re-designed by a fellow tenant at work. The rear spoiler needs spaying to match the actual colour as do the Polo wing mirrors.
Still, this year will be the 10th year of ownership and she's never let me down. The only item I've had to buy outside of maintenance items has been a battery. Did a track day at Oulton Park last month and she loved it. Booked another for the 1st of March.
Her current function is to act as Builder's van, business vehicle, bike transporter and Le Mans transport.

Keeping in mind that it's the V8 version of the R8, I would be going for the TTRS STronic for the performance. If I need practically of RS4 I'd be looking at RS6 instead or maybe C62 AMGs.
If I have the money for a well sorted V8 R8 I'd also be considering a 997 Turbo...

If you would choose a tt over an r8 then the first part of your username is apt for you my friend.

Why bit an R8? How about the need for more space, or less of a 'look-at-me' car.
R8 is no doubt special, but a B7 Avant in a dark hue would be my pick of those three.
Well those decisions are based on your own values and opinions. The OP gives us no weighting with regard to what he values in a car, so as has been stated, it's a non-question asking for a list of responses. If money isn't anR8 is no doubt special, but a B7 Avant in a dark hue would be my pick of those three.
Issue, I fail to see why the question even needs to be asked.

edit: Actually for the money I'd go for low miles 2011 GTR or put in extra and go for the 2012 GTR: )
