Having had the wings of my car replaced under warranty I can appreciate that there is an element of delight to hear that they will be replaced free of charge, but it should never be lost on us that VAG have been pulling our trousers down by producing and selling junk that's not fit for purpose. No matter how the situation is resolved, no one should have to enter a battle to get things put right. I will vote with my feet and will never own one again.

My MK5 57 diesel golf is going into to have a warranty check on Monday as it has blistering and rust on both wings - any hints as to how to try and get them to do it at no cost to me? I've been reading the above posts and looks like there is a great variation as to what the outcome is, but the most recent is very encouraging!

Had my wifes 2006 Golf done in November at a VW approved bodyshop as our local main dealer has no bodyshop on site.
The job was done completely free of charge to myself and the place that did the work did a superb job, the car was reflex silver and I am extremely critical with my cars and I could not tell it had been painted, the match was fantastic in any light and viewed from any angle,
Could not be happier and it was no real drama to get done either.

I had a very happy outcome at my local VW body shop. Took my car in expecting to have to negotiate, but couldn't have been simpler - a few photos, a couple of paint measurements a nod and we'll call you when we have the OK from VW to get your car booked in. Nothing else said! So car booked in for this month.

I have been following this thread with interest, as a long term owner of a mkV GTI.
I took the car out of the garage 2 weeks ago, to notice bubbling on a front wing. I have been aware of he potential issues with corrosion on golf wings, so have been vigilant.
Took the car to the local VW dealer, whom i purchased the car from -bought new.
Half expecting a little battle.
I was pleasantly surprised, to get a call later that day, to say they will replace both wings, respray and a bit of other corrosion touch -up.
Within 48 hours, car is back, and all work done.
looks good as new

Where do I stand? I nudged the front bumper on my 2006 r32. This opened up a crack on my wheel arch showing rust and paint blistering.
Problem now is, the wing has been blended before, due to me needing a new bonnet because of an accident. There was no damage to the wings then, but obviously both got blended in.
The accident was last year and repaired via my insurance at a VW repair centre.

Well as VW repairer it last time they should have a record that the front bumper was damaged and the front wings were blended.

I'd call VW customer services and go back to the same dealer.

I've not had it to the VW dealer yet, it's in getting a service and a few bits done at another garage. The VW approved repairers reckoned VW wouldn't help when he looked over it. He said that they'd replaced a lot of front wings, then quickly said a few. I'm wondering if he's after the work direct from me. He also claimed that VW would claim the small crack that is now there was the cause of the rust. Wish me luck.

The guy at the repairers also told me to tell the dealer that he'd already looked at the car, as they deal with each other. He was almost insistent on that. Not sure why.
Would I be better trying a VW dealer with no ties to that repairer?

Got offered this today for the corrosion on my 2006 Golf GTI (which is ten years old and out of warranty next week).

Any thoughts on whether this is a good or bad deal?

1/ front wings are authorised as 100% replacement.

2 rear wing warranty will pay 50% towards repair, leaving 50% to be paid by yourself.
Approx £185.00 will be your contribution.

3/ front sill panels warranty will pay 50% towards repair, leaving 50% to be paid for by yourself.
Approx. £244.00 for both sill panels.

None of the corrosion was caused by me!

Has anyone had problems with corrosion above the rear wheel arches - i.e. is it likely to get worse? It doesn't seem to be deteriorating at present.

^^ That's a seriously good deal. As Golfs are known for rotting, the money you pay now will add to its resale value. I would ask them to delete the foam in the arch liner that caused the problem.

I can recall a time not long ago when a ten year old car was rusted out from end to end. Can you imagine Ford replacing Cortina wings FOC in 1976? :-)

Has anyone had any luck claiming on the warranty from:
St Albans
Letchworth
Watford
Milton Keynes
Or Bedford VW main dealers?
Just hedging my best bet before approaching about the rust issue!

Just had Volkswagen agree to replace a rusty front wing on my 2005 Golf GTI under warranty for free (the 12 years expires in 2 months time). Took the car in 3 weeks ago for inspection and have had no hassle or arguments from them.

Unfortunately the other wing isn't original and they offered to replace it for £430 whilst the car is in the bodyshop. Seemed a bit steep so I declined. Overall fairly happy with the result.

I called up St Albans VW and spoke to some plank in in the service department who told me to take it to their bodyshop 40 miles away in Essex somewhere.
I would try Letchworth personally
