I had no luck in getting them to cover the whole cost of my repair approximately two months ago. The best they would do was 75%, disappointing but better than nothing...

Ok thanks, i'll have another read through and hopefully they will be willing to cover more than 50%, i'll update this after!

So they got back to me, adamant that because its not covered by the corrosion warranty and it is classed as a mechanical problem (covered for 3 years) they will still only cover 50% as a goodwill offer.

I'm going to see if there are some cheaper solutions out there than £450, as I'm planning on selling this next summer

Seems like a load of old rubbish to me.
Since when has a body panel been mechanical? Just how many moving parts does it have? LOL

Apparently the liner moves?! Certainly wont be buying VW again, up until this point they have been great, but this has really browned me off!

This along with my alloys lacquer peeling again, after having all 4 wheels replaced a year into ownership, now they are looking pretty shabby... sigh

The liner moves due to the sponge type holder inside the top of the wheel arch taking on water, then the liner rubs the wheel arch and it rots.
Its a design fault. Full stop.

Loads of others are getting it paid fully. Just a quick google search throws this http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/511959/3549926.aspx

Hmmm, thanks for that, it seems very common! annoying that when I go to VW Cambridge they say its only 50%, yet just a couple of months ago someone else goes there with the same problem they get 100%, no questions. Ive asked them to explain....

Try the Sawston branch.

Everyone should think about getting the fix applied before it starts.

You think a diff branch could have a diff outcome? Considering ive been speaking to someone at VW customer services directly? They said 50% is all they are willing to offer in these cases now.

They will have a different warranty person, however it might be the same if they both have to contact VW direct.

If you have the time, it might be worth it.

VW are taking a hard-line approach now. Ive been to 2 dealers and to the top level of management at their head office, involving lots of protracted communication over 2 months. Bottom line....50% is the most they are offering.

Obviously alot of these cases are cropping up now, and its making a dent in their profits

As I'm most likely going to get rid of this car in the summer I don't really want to pay £450 for this, so looks like i'll be buying 2 used wings and replacing them myself, cost about £90 delivered - installation doesnt look too hard.

Poor poor show VW.

My mk4 has no rust at all but has plenty of other silly little problems. My experiences of all sorts of VAG cars is appalling.

I believe there is a recall on a service bulletin for this problem. - I know of a couple that have been sorted at the dealers

Sorry for late reply, do you know if this should give me any new hope? is there anywhere i can see this bulletin, and maybe approach another dealer with it?

Thanks

The PDF document won't get you anywhere, all the dealers have seen it and don't take any notice of it. If you are applying for a claim now you will struggle, unless you are extremely lucky, to get more than 50% contribution under goodwill. If you have a considerable service history/relationship with a particular dealer you may be lucky and they will "top up" the VW offering from 50 to 100%. This is rare though. I have the PDF if you want it.
