I'd take it to a different mechanic.

Others may correct me on this, but that's the first time I've heard of a turbo having to be reset after it's been run in (for a cost of extra £££ no doubt).

There are tonnes of valves and pipes on VAG TDI engines that can fail and diagnosing "turbo problems" can be a pain in the backside. How was the turbo fault diagnosed?

hi the fault was found with a gadet that was plugged in to the car that came up with 2 faults
1 was a charge valve and the second we are not sure what it was but he changed
valve vacuum
charge valve
breather pipe
oil
£377.18

all this made no difference went back and his idea was to buy a cleaning kit online to flush out the turbo @ £180 inc labour

still not fixed he did not have any ideas why so i went on line ordered a exchange/recon turbo @£300
he fitted the turbo this week +
pipe seals fuel cleaner oil filter turbo pipe and new oil inc labour £369.46

my total spend is £1226.64 and still its not fixed iam not a mecahnic but i have looked no line and 2 things come up re turbo problems map sensor and mass air sensor as a mechanic should he have started on these parts first ??? .
as for running in the turbo i have looked online and cant find any quotes re running in a turbo
or having the setting changed many thanks for you reply

Describe the fault/symptoms in detail please. We could then give you a more informed answer.

It's difficult to tell without more info but the first thing I would do is try blanking of the EGR valve because it sounds like its stuck open.

The being set to low power for 300 miles and turning it back up story is complete nonsense!

At a guess boost control sensor needs replacing £80 give or take fitted. All the other stuff was unnecessary. I would not let whoever the idiot is who has done all this work to your car anywhere near it again.

Sounds like limp home mode.

Also the turbos NEVER need "running in" - that's a total cock and bull theory designed for people who think turbos need running in like a brand new engine / set of pistons/rings.

I would take it elsewhere. I am sure with VCDS I could log actual and requested boost and find out what the turbo is doing (or not doing)

Hi mate, did you ever resolve the issue with your passat? I'm having exactly the same problem with mine now. Almost exactly as you describe.
