I'm assuming only people who have purchased outright as it voids the warranty VW can tell if the ECU has been flashed and it reports back to a central database to void any engine related claims.

with things as they are right now only a true fool would buy a £30k car and invalidate the warranty. As i previously posted all VW dealers diagnostic equipment is coded to flag immediately when connected to a car that has had the ECU flashed.

Mapping is not invisible, despite what the bloke in the pub will try and tell you.

I have no idea what view the leasing company would take to this, but i would imagine it would bring the agreement to an end quite quickly and maybe a financial claim against you?

I imagine you'd be at least required to pay the full finance amount, and possibly more to rectify the car, modifications are not allowed (at least with Arval), so you'd have to be brave to do it imo.

Tbh, having had it for 12 or so hours, you don't really need anymore power there's plenty there.

Unfortunately that feeling can wear off pretty quickly, however fast the car is.

How about a tuning box instead of an ECU remap? Don't think they can be detected if you take it off before visit the dealer, although that is just based on what I have read and not on experience.

Washed mine already! The little bit of turbo lag is crazy, when it kicks in it almost eats the road up!

Spoke to Phil today, I think I'm going to go pick it up (I'm in Newcastle) so I can enjoy the drive back. After speaking to him and looking at these posts I'm far too excited! It better hurry up! :-)

Nice, I was going to for work tomorrow, but going on a long trip on the weekend anyway, so it'll be dirty before the end of the week anyway - will clean it then! smile

cheeky question - does anyone have a vin number i can borrow? just so i can download the owners manual

PM me please if so smile

orrrr... does anyone have a link to the owners manual online that doesn't require vin number?

Would like to do as much reading up as possible before hand.

I would use my own but i don't know how long i would have to wait for one to be allocated, im only at stage 2 on the tracker frown

Quick update guys - apologies for those who are utterly bored by the mpg discussion smile

Ok - so i refuelled with 97ron as that was all i could get locally, then stuck in race mode and left in race mode...and to my surprise - i'm now averaging over 37.x mpg without ever coming out of race mode. Which is nearly 5mpg better than i have been getting on Eco mode - all using the runs to and from work and the same evening/lunch time blitz's.

So if i could get 98/99ron with a loosened engine - i honestly think i will be over 40, so that softens the blow smile

On a more scary note the nite before last in a couple of villages next to me (less than 3miles) a scirocco and a high end audi were stolen by the same crew - i've been told they are going for high end german cars. They drilled the house lock and stole the keys then drove away for both cars. I'm a little worried about mine now as its kept on the drive.

Although i have GAP and full comp - if mine was nicked, where do i stand with my £2k+ deposit i've put down - any ideas?

I'd best clear the garage out then.

Hi Bonty,

Don't know how you would stand on your deposit but imagine insurance would cover you. Did you take out GAP cover? Surely that would sort it out.

On the subject of cars being stolen, I heard a recent report of BMWs (iirc) with keyless entry / ignition being stolen and the advice was to go to Halfords or similar and buy a steering wheel and / or gear lever lock! For all the advance in security and electronics, it seems you still can't beat old tech in some things.

Yep, depends which year the BMW is.

They mistakingly moved the OBD port where it doesn't trigger the alarm, so people were cutting holes in the door windows, plugging into the OBD and programming their blank key to match the car.

All they had to do then was unlock via key and drive off, no alarms go off or anything, and I've seen a video of it done in under 2min!

It's been happening a while, we're currently chasing around a stolen black R that's doing burglaries for other high end cars.
I'm not sure on the golf whether they need the keys or not, but my advice would be a disc lock for the steering wheel and anything else that makes it difficult for them

My only thorts are if they are breaking into the house to get the keys in the first place - chances are you would want to keep the disc lock key close to the car keys. Difficult balance cos i dont want them to break in - grab the keys, go to the car, see they cant get the steering wheel lock off, come back in the house and play hell up!! - hopefully they would see it as too much hassle.
