It's been happening a while, we're currently chasing around a stolen black R that's doing burglaries for other high end cars.
I'm not sure on the golf whether they need the keys or not, but my advice would be a disc lock for the steering wheel and anything else that makes it difficult for them
My only thorts are if they are breaking into the house to get the keys in the first place - chances are you would want to keep the disc lock key close to the car keys. Difficult balance cos i dont want them to break in - grab the keys, go to the car, see they cant get the steering wheel lock off, come back in the house and play hell up!! - hopefully they would see it as too much hassle.
read somewhere that the trick is to have your keys on a table on the first floor near the top of the stairs. Meaning if someone has broken into your house and prepared to come up the stairs looking for the keys you really don't wanna be getting in their way and that is the safest option.

Unless of course you are a powerfully built director who can instantly wake up and be prepared for the possibility tooled up crew and are not bothered by someone threatening your wife/kids to get you to hand over keys.

Back on topic then wink

I see National Vehicle Solutions have the Golf R still listed on a PCH deal at a great rate:

Personal Deal
£266.12per month INCL VAT
Initial Rental£1,800.00
Contract Length24
MaintenanceNo

That's on a 24month 10K mile deal!

Wonder if you can actually get at them, says limited colours available and delivery for September. Might give them a call...

Its a 3 door manual with no maintenance so the price is average at best.

i have a 5 door dsg with maintenance for £295 inc vat, admittedly its on 7000 miles p/a.

closest i could find on that site was 8000 miles - which is £249.72 inc vat

I am more than happy to be paying £46 extra for another 2 doors, a DSG box and full maintenance smile

Just looking at the business deal they list there and it seems pretty good.
£187.59 + VAT
24 months
£1500 deposit

I'm looking for a 3 door manual. with 5k per year

been quoted from VW direct, on 10k per annum:
3+23 £866.13 £288.72
6+23 £1542.60 £257.10
all + VAT

Anywhere else you could suggest looking? Any help would be greatly appreciated smile

It's £225 a month including for 5k. But you need to be a company director or in receipt of company car allowance so it's not really PCH.

What is the excess mileage on that?

Another good argument for DSG

VW handbook said:
Deceleration to standstill
if a vehicle travelling ahead brakes to a standstill, The ACC will also brake your vehicle to a standstill. vehicle is then held stationary by the brakes.

Driving off after a stationary phase (only vehicles with automatic gearbox)
After a stationary phase, the adaptive cruise control can start the vehicle moving automatically as soon as the vehicle in front begins to move again.

Just if it helps, when i got my wifes lease car, all i needed a headed letter saying that a proportion of my salary was for car use. Then i secured a great business lease. Not sure it helps but thought i would mention it smile

I had my S4 stolen a while back. Have installed a removable parking post on my drive to make things a little more difficult in future.

Oh wow didn't know it did it until standstill, that is fantastic. I have DSG and have tried it on the motorway, works really well smile.

Just had a missed call from LeaseplanGo, can't say I'll be ringing back as they never got back to me or Phil as to why my quote was so much higher than someone elses of the same spec, and plus I have the car now.

Quick update guys - apologies for those who are utterly bored by the mpg discussion smile

Ok - so i refuelled with 97ron as that was all i could get locally, then stuck in race mode and left in race mode...and to my surprise - i'm now averaging over 37.x mpg without ever coming out of race mode. Which is nearly 5mpg better than i have been getting on Eco mode - all using the runs to and from work and the same evening/lunch time blitz's.

So if i could get 98/99ron with a loosened engine - i honestly think i will be over 40, so that softens the blow smile

On a more scary note the nite before last in a couple of villages next to me (less than 3miles) a scirocco and a high end audi were stolen by the same crew - i've been told they are going for high end german cars. They drilled the house lock and stole the keys then drove away for both cars. I'm a little worried about mine now as its kept on the drive.

Although i have GAP and full comp - if mine was nicked, where do i stand with my £2k+ deposit i've put down - any ideas?
I put 98 in it earlier mate, and I got 30 MPG and that was in slow slow traffic. It goes to show that it can be done, I don't take it out of race either.

Also mate, who's your gap with?! need to do mine!

Not a regular poster here, but having this topic pointed out to me I thought I'd make a contribution in the hope it would help those seeking assistance with VW Golf GTD product.

We have a small number of physical Golf GTD 5dr in stock ready to deliver, contrary to some of the comments I've seen and heard we ARE able to supply these to businesses and private individuals financed only, if you are looking for a cash purchase unfortunately we'll quote you the standard 20-22 week lead time as advised by VWUK.

Happy to take enquiries via PM, for reference we are authorised directly by the FCA for your peace of mind, and deal directly with the bank funding the vehicle, NOT third party or sub-brokered.

I am not suggesting you are anything other than an honest decent chap - it's just the mods take a dim view to advertising / commercial posts within threads without giving them some kinda kick back lol smile

We've already lost an extremely helpful BDM from inchcape VW smile
