Saw my first R in the wild today. White 5dr I think. We passed each other near Leyland in Preston this am and it was only the R in the grill that gave it away. Very subtle and understated.
Might be someone off here so 'hi' if it was.
i've started to see the odd one here and there now, seen a lapiz like mine (18"'s tho), a white, and a red - all in the lincoln area. Agreed - very understated, looks great though!Might be someone off here so 'hi' if it was.

Quick question, have these R deals dried up now? And do these type of deals suffice every so often on other vehicles?
i think the Golf R deals are still around, it's just the leadtimes have gone through the roof due to demand. There are some good deals on the BMW m135i at the mo i believe.

900 miles in on mine now so not long before I can access the full 7000rpm.
edit - the Golf R irder I cancelled is now at stage 6. Be funny to pop along to the dealers and see it in the flesh.

Ok, I think I already know the answer to this but: do you wish you'd waited for the R or do you think you did right by getting the BMW?900 miles in on mine now so not long before I can access the full 7000rpm.

Probably a tough question to answer without bias on either direction tbh, but if he has actually driven the R for a decent period too, I'd be interested to hear what he thinks. All the reviews I've seen have favoured the R and S3 over 135i/Merc equiv interestingly enough though.

I think the ride was better in the Golf, more composed on our poorly maintained country roads but I was concerned it would eat front tyres as the rear only comes into play once the front lose grip. Obviously it will handle winter better. Also has better economy for pretty much the same performance. Then again, the Golf is, well, just a Golf.
The BMW is better equiped, has a smoother 6cyl RWD setup which I'm used to and the right badge on the front (yes, I'm a snob). Although it's also audio augmented, the BMW sounds more natural than the Golf's pseudo boxer sound effect. The BMW does have a lousey stereo though and I'm not convinced the zf8 is much / any better than the Golf's DSG.
Both look subtle to the untrained eye so easy to sneak up on someone.
To be honest I'd have been happy with the Golf but have no major worries about the BMW and am happy wafting along until I see something on the horizon I want and then knock it into manual, flip the paddles and reel it in.
Regarding the reviews, there's alwaysa new media darling in the press. The M135i had it's turn, the Megane it's and currently it's the Golf R. Next year it'll move on again.

May be minor, but my R is much better fuel wise on V Power than momentum.
Cheers.

Nice non bias opinion, I'm a huge BMW fan. But having had the R32 mk4 and mk5, the 7 is a breath of fresh air, it's hugely refined in comparison, does it make it a better/worse car? probably not. I like that it's not ostentatious and it's stealthy, same for the 135i. The Blue LED Angel eyes give them away, only 1'er with them as far as I'm aware. Both great cars, I'd be happy with either or. Love my golf, it's been a pleasure thus far.

Now you've only gone and opened up the 'what fuel should I use?' debate haven't you!?!?May be minor, but my R is much better fuel wise on V Power than momentum.
Cheers.
