What a mess, looks like a brilliant exercise in why not to buy a Golf.

Will be interesting to see the used car prices in 2 years time.
That's exactly what I pointed out when I was contacted by Radio 4 too. Hadn't occurred to them that it's a finely balanced supply / demand model and oversupply reduces price.

Ordered 7th April

Arrived at dealer today (18 weeks lead time), but not taking delivery until 1st September.

5 dr Lapiz Blue, DSG, Rear selt-belt and keyless.

LeaseplanGo via VW Newbury.

And dirt cheap as well as I am a business user...

Thanks for those replies.

It looks like it can take anything from four weeks to 6 months! eek

Even allowing for variations in spec and assuming other parameters to be roughly equal, that is one hell of a difference! If as has been suggested, spec makes little or no difference to lead time, what explanation is there for such disparity? Unless some are picking up cancelled orders or have somehow managed to buy a car which was in stock(???), how is this possible?

(I will have a look at the other thread, too)

Probably a bit of micro order management going on to ensure a constant supply of these when the leases end, which makes sense.

The shorter lead times would be due to people buying cars that were already built or on there way. lead time is about 20 weeks now!

Hi,
Does anyone have an email address for David Middleton or anyone now dealing with the orders at Inchcape Cheltenham. I cannot find one online and cannot call from my current location.
Thanks

Delivery arranged for 2nd September - can't wait!

Can I have some insurance recommendations as I recall seeing some very low figures being quoted.

Can anyone confirm when the first service is due?

We had a great quote with Aviva directly online. They are a good company in my experience, and we're happy at £400 for a 25year old, me and me with 6 points smile

confused.com for starters to give you an idea of what's available.

First service may be 12 months or slightly different if variable servicing is set.

Yes thats good given a 25 year old and your points!

I am just outside London so that ramps it up a bit, but still came out at £321 or £355 with protected NCB.

Finally ordered today, went through Orange Wheels in the end and the dealer is Chester VW which is local so even better.

Ended up getting..

3 door DSG
Lapiz Blue/Limestone grey (I have a week to decide)
19" Prets
Winter pack
Keyless entry
Reversing camera
5k miles
3 year PCP

£2.5k down and £315 a month.

Fairly chuffed considering it's got some options.

Apparently there's only a few build slots before before it goes to a 24 week waiting list!?

Small piece on this mess in Auto Express and asks people to complain to the conduct and markets authority. No real detail tho....

Some developments from mine which makes me happy smile

Original order 14/7/2014
Estimated delivery middle november
tracker still showing at stage 2

Had a conversation with the dealer who had an identical car on order as a demo so they've swapped the order numbers over and now i am showing as stage 3 - and the build date has been confirmed for production week commencing 14/09/2014

So should get it a month early !! woohoo!!

I'm assuming this wasn't through Phil/Cheltenham/Arval?
