Whilst this is true, I look at it like this:
1. I am going to be driving the car for the next 2 years so I want it equipped for me.
2. Some of the extras do add a fair bit to the monthly but some less so. Mine will have Winter pack, panoramic roof, reverse camera, keyless entry and the lesser SatNav option which altogether added about £100 a month. Total extra cost therefore will be about £2400 - buying some new cars, you could easily spend that and (a lot) more, just upgrading the alloys.
3. Depreciation and loss of value of options on new cars can be astronomical, too. (Re-sale of poorly optioned cars may be a factor here admittedly).
4. The total cost for leasing the R for two years fitted with these extras is still excellent value for money, imo.

I will admit that some of the options I have chosen are fripperies but the Winter pack, satnav and reverse camera are useful to me and in my work.

In any case, how often do you get to option up a brand new car? This will be only my 3rd new one out of all of the cars I have had so a bit of a splurge can easily be justified (ref: Man Maths, for any doubters still out there...)
wink
But £100 a month is nearly the same price as the car smile

I am now considering looking at a Golf R - 5door with DSG - and I have a few queries:

1) Can I put my private plate onto the vehicle?

2) When sorting out the figures with whichever provider I contact, do you get (at the initial setup phase) a guaranteed future value for the car at the end of the lease period? i.e. "If you want to buy the car outright at the end of the lease then that would be £XX,XXX"?

Ta!

You cannot buy the car at the end of these deals that people are talking about. You can only do that on a PCP.

1) Yes. I think they charge £50 admin fee per plate change (Once to put it on, once to take it off)
2) as above. Car goes back.

I have got a quote for a 3dr manual with metallic paint for £7300 (includes admin). Does that sound about right? I haven't approached VW dealer yet. I wanted to start off with a good deal from a non dealer.

I was thinking of going for the red but as stunning as it looks I know this is not a colour I would pick. I know the extras add up but the other side is regretting not having them when you have the car. There are a few I am toying with.

Someone briefly mentioned Golf R lease months ago, wished I had followed it up then.

You are missing some details. If that includes VAT and allows you 10,000 miles per year then that is a good deal.

Thanks to all that have posted previously, my VW dealer has just matched an on line broker quote.

Golf R 5 door in plain white, DSG gearbox 3x23 at £899.97 down payment followed by £299.99 a month both figures include VAT, delivery March/April 2015 which is when I want it.

10k per year on the miles.

Just ordered mine from local dealer who matched the lease price I'd given without hesitation:

5 door
Lapis
19's
Keyless
Winter pack:

£323 inc vat on a 6+23 profile.

I'll miss leather and sat nav but they added an extra £1,943 to the total and I'd rather have the cheaper payments for a couple of years!

I've been told they can get it for January...

Right, so car is due to be delivered on Thursday but seems as if insurance premiums have gone up since I last checked in July.

Any recommendations for insurers/brokers that would be willing to have a look? Have tried all the usual comparison websites and only Hastings offered a premium close to what several were offering in July - c. £600. Reading online though, reviews seem to be extremely negative and would rather not have any hassle should I have to claim as the car is leased.

Would prefer to deal with a broker rather than online comparison website and willing to pay a premium for their services.

Any suggestions?

That sounds like exactly what I would go for. Who did you show them as a comparison?

Did you add anything to the spec apart from White? Maintenance included or not?

I would want Pretoria 19's purely from a looks perspective but read somebody else decided to buy a set, put them and plan to resell them when the car goes back due the 19's increasing the monthly premium quiet a bit.

Hoping to go in this week and talk to my local VW dealer if I get time!

Am I right in thinking these are deals not to be missed?

I'm about to sell the SL60 (deposit taken) and we only need one car for a year or so. I got thinking about what car to go for next when we change and fancy an S3 but a few year old low mileage examples are between 15K to 20K and 265 ps.

I then noticed these deals and am thinking along the lines of a 3 door model in white with DSG. The only thing I could do with is a tow bar to use with the bike rack.

I've never leased before but even allowing for discount on a new car I can't see this being beaten in terms the depreciation etc on a new car or even on a second hand car for that matter. Our other car is a very low mileage 10 year old X5 which we're happy to keep but it's on a BMW warranty and if I add that, tax, likely servicing costs etc it works out that the X5 would have to depreciate less than about £1,900 pa over the period for it to be better and that ignores the potential to invest the X5 sales proceeds.

Is there a catch? How tough are dealers on return condition? If it's a two year lease and 2 year service interval would I pay for a service? I look after my cars but just am new to this so want to go in with my eyes open.

Deals will be pulled at the end of the Month, get in now before 1/11/14 price increase.

Quotes emailed to VW dealer for approval by VW head office, whole process took about an hour.

19's do look best, but live in Dorset with shocking road surfaces so 18's it is.

Ordered in June took delivery in October

i would say 6 months now to be safe.

Unless you manage to get a cancelled order but that would be dealer specific

Are the deals on the Golf R not to be missed or are there similar deals on other cars worth considering (of a similar nature to the Golf R i.e. practical and appealing to a Pistonheads member)?

Well I went the A45 route, but not comparable in price to the Golf...
