...surely a wee email to the salesperson or sales manager while you're still away would put your mind at ease??

Cheers,

just a question my car was showing delivery on the 25th Nov but had no contact from the dealer yet....im not back in the country till end of next week but wondered would they not call me to let me know?

Hopefully they wouldn't just sell the car on if they haven't heard from me?
Have they got a way of getting hold of you whilst you are abroad,if they can't get hold of you - they may assume you have gone cold on the deal and therefore may look to sell it on.

Did they know you were going abroad?

Mine arrived today, got to thank Inchcape Cheltenham for an effortless purchase and delivery. Also Phil who sorted out the deal initially. Other than being very optimistic about delivery dates my initial contact with him was great and i have even managed to change my deal from PCP ( as I was not eligible for a lease) to a PCH when VWFS changed the criteria. The change alone has saved me £1200 over the two year term. I'm Over the moon with the car and probably prefer it to the S4.

Folks, is it possible to take the lease on and then pass it onto your wife or other family member to drive but keeping the lease in your name. Is there anything in the VWFS ts and cs that forbids this?

As long as they are insured to drive then it will be fine.

Are you 100% sure on that? Whilst I'm sure a wife would be fine, a brother-in-law at a different address who was reimbursing the lessee the cost might be on shaky ground. I'm definitely no expert, but if money were changing hands then it may put a different spin on things.

Directly from the terms and conditions:

4. Restrictions relating to the Vehicle,
4.1 You must keep the Vehicle in your possession and control and must not sell or otherwise dispose of it or attempt to do so.

So as above I would say your spouse/partner would be fine but otherwise no.

Have you tried a "pedal box" to help the throttle response? Its night and day different/better on small and medium throttle inputs?

from what I've heard that invalidates the warranty ?

but frustratingly also heard that it really helps !

Called today cause I had the chance...as it happens its not even at the dealer yet although the tracker said it was there on the 25th Nov.

Was tempted to put back delivery till the new plate change but that may be pushing it, lets see when it comes in smile

Its removable in 30 seconds or can just be turned off in which case you have OEM response - no trace on VD1 in either case apparently.

Mine has been to VW for warranty with it fitted but turned off - I specifically asked if anything showed and was told no.

Wow.. that's weird then. You almost understand for an auto box to be a little slow on the uptake but for the manual to need 'time' thats just odd.

is it the same in Race ?
It's a bit better, but it's not as immediate as I'd expected or that I'm used to — maybe the Clio spoilt me — and this was from a far-from ideal drive across London in heavy traffic, but that's not where you'd expect a modern car to be wanting. I've owned extreme cars (R32 Skyline with dog box and 964RS race car) as daily drivers where you accept compromises as a trade off for open-road thrills.

I guess time will tell as I learn more about it, and these 'delays' are minuscule — it's more of a feeling — but I suspect it won't match the Clio's ability to feel like an automotive extension of my unconscious mind.
Your posts have almost made me glad I missed the deadline and kept my R26!

Hello all

I currently drive a 2002 golf mk4 150bhp gt diesel. Been toying with the idea of a brand new Mk7 GTI or R on lease and notice a couple of you have gone down that route. Do you do it direct through the dealer or other companies? Could you advise of good reputable companies that you have sourced your Golf R's from and give me an estimate of what the costs involved are? Any hidden extras? Maintenance etc?

I bought my current golf 8 years ago on traditionsl HP finance over 5 years, and in the 8 years i've owned it my financial worthiness took a turn south shall we say and i am now looking to find a new car and thought leasing may be a good way back into new car "ownership"

Also whats the R like to drive? No doubt will blow my socks off after driving my old diesel for so long!

Cheers

Hi - I have an R on order via a lease. There were a number of dealers offering PCH deals which were around £7K over 2 years assuming a relatively basic spec (extras really up the £s). These deals pretty much ended at the end of October. Suggest you get over to the 'RForum' website. I suspect there are deals but that they are now north of 8 or 9K now (and sometimes a lot more than that).

The broker deals change all the time and so you'll need to do some research.

Hi Craig, I have signed up to lease a new R from a VW dealership and have found it to be a very easy experience. From what I can gather there was a lot of good deals to be had by brokers but they were taking money for a product they couldn't guarantee delivery of, I think a few people have suffered because of it. I placed my order on Oct 17th and the car build is currently in progress. Also dealers do not charge admin or doc fees. I only had a short test drive of the R but that was all that was needed, what an incredible car to drive!! I like the subtle looks and the incredible power, very much a wolf in sheeps clothing. The price is reasonable too, mine is a 3 door manual in pure white and it comes in at £270 inc vat a month with an £810 deposit. A lot of car for the money IMO! Hopefully there is still a good deal to be had out there for you.

Do you have an option to buy at the end of the lease Freddy?

No I won't have an option to buy at the end but that suits me fine as I like to change my cars fairly often so two years is just right.

Thanks guys. Does that include maintenance and what annual mileage? At those prices i may be going sooner than i thought! What comes as standard? To be honest as long as it has iphone connectivity i'd be happy!

I'm guessing all main dealers will offer leasing?

My poor old mk4 is struggling a bit these days. A 5 door R fits the bill nicely. Probably only ever going to have a car like that once, may as well do it when young enough to enjoy it!
