Most others on this thread have been discussing leasing a Golf R (i.e. you never, ever own it.) You're asking about buying one on a PCP plan, which is totally different.

PCP : Add up your deposit, the monthly payments and the 'guaranteed final value' (which you haven't mentioned) to find what you're actually paying to buy the car. Alternative would be taking out a cheap bank loan to cover the cost of car less deposit, and seeing what the figures come out to at the end.

Also don't forget that a: You should be able to negotiate around 10% off list on the base figure plus options, and b: VW UK will be putting a £750 'deposit contribution' into the deal. This should be in addition to the part-ex value the dealer has offered you,.

Thanks for the info. Definitely some other bits worth considering. In terms of negotiating 10% off, the figures I quoted were online I would expect some see some improvements on the price when I schedule another meeting with the dealership.

Guaranteed final value, I'm just about to google it but in simple terms....?

PCP Deal works like this: You pay a deposit, and then borrow the remaining £££ from the finance company. Each month you pay interest on the outstanding balance, and the remainder of your monthly payment pays off some capital.

But after your 4 years are up you'll only have paid off about (say) 60% of the total cost of the car. The remaining balance (=GFV) is calculated by the finance co. to be what the car will be worth at that point, assuming you stick to the agreed mileage. You can either hand back the keys and walk away at this point, or buy the car for the GFV plus some paperwork costs. Dealers will try and tell you that the car may be worth MORE than the GFV and you can use the difference as a deposit on a new deal, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Based on your figures, I'd expect they've set a GFV of around 12K after 4 years. See here for a useful calculator. http://www.pcpcal.co.uk/

Not unless you go for a maintained contract. Excess mileage charge is usually higher on a maintained contract too.

These deals are incredible really for what you get. I'm very surprised. Although they don't seem to be specced with Satnav/pano-roof and the 19 inch Pretorias. I've asked one company how much that would be on top but suspect it will be a significant extra. I couldn't live without satnav though

ppm excess was 6p for me, raising to 11ppm with maintenance and tyre cover.

Extras don't affect residuals so take the price of the extra and divide it by the term to give you a rough idea.

Here is the extras list from when I ordered...

Having never bought a new car I was surprised how many extras were available and slightly disappointed how many things didn't come as standard, but paying £205 per month I wasn't going to double my lease with options! (Fully specced it would add 379.90 +vat per month onto the lease!! haha)

I went for this deal because it was cheap! The only option I ticked was metallic paint as its the one thing the MRS insisted - the car wasn't red!

i wonder if the base R for leasing companies is like the newspapers for sweetshops, they lure you in for the main thing hoping you pick up some trinkets on the way to the till...?

My conclusion too. With the prices as they are now, it's madness. If I'd been interested in leasing an R and seen the £170 monthly deals then perhaps a different story though as I would struggle with the concept of a £30k without satnav.

Same here for myself. It seems a lot of people are waiting until March for their deliveries meaning mine can't be delivered until the 12th. It'll be 6 months to the day from ordering to delivery!

Blimey! I've not gotten a delivery date yet, but if it is that far out, I will be half tempted to go and collect it myself (hmmmm, maybe that's their plan.... )

64 plate for me delivered on the 27th Feb - not bothered about having a 15 plate and the 640d goes back that day, plus VW dealer said they were fully booked 1st week of March for deliveries...
