Lease on Golf R
Discussion
So my car was BW9 and just called VWCS to chase it up and it's still at Emden docks - been there since 4 March
Apparently there's so much volume at the moment with the new car reg that there is massive backlog - not just on that side but also at Grimsby
Been told to give it another 3 weeks before chasing up

Yes, I've been told exactly the same thing. Bit annoying as my other lease car has gone back now. Part of the explanation I was given was that they have run out of lorries servicing the two UK ports other than Sheerness (Sheerness is apparently full up) and until the backlog is clear, no more cars are leaving Germany.Apparently there's so much volume at the moment with the new car reg that there is massive backlog - not just on that side but also at Grimsby

Rubbish.

I doubt I would have ordered had I known how long the elongated process would take. 8 months for a car sucks....just hope i'm pleased with it when she finally arrives (In June!)

Build week 15 confirmed for me and an estimated delivery date of first week in May! Not bad considering I ordered end of Jan! So that's under 4 months for me!!
Exactly what I got told and am expecting... but I ordered on 3rd November, haha. So you've done really well mate. Cheers,
Grant

I think the dealer who the lease company use had one already ordered which must have been for a customer who cancelled, fortunately it was the same spec I wanted. The only downside is I am paying way more than the people who ordered last year, my overall cost over 2 years is £9k. But this is what I would expect the car to depreciate by anyway so overall it still beats buying one.
Only time will tell but looking at every other single vehicle out there in this price range and this performance, after 2 years they have lost around 30%. They may be worth every penny now due to supply and demand but in 2 years time when hundreds of second hand lease cars flood the market, who knows.
Also, buying outright for me would require a PCP or loan and would easily add £4k on top of the £30k list price. So effectively you can add interest onto the depreciation.

This is the Kenwood solution I was originally thinking of for a Mk5/ Mk6 - http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/car/oem/vw/DN...va1o said:

Looks good. Was this via a VW dealer, or elsewhere? Might look into that one.bungle said:

Should be yes, e.g. http://www.jcbvwcarparts.co.uk/product/Kenwood_DAB...Might be cheaper to retrofit the factory system though if you can find a breaker Mk5/ Mk6 with Nav (or eBay).

Thanks. £1k isn't cheap! Will ask my local one if they can do it / how much as well. Might be cheaper to retrofit the factory system though if you can find a breaker Mk5/ Mk6 with Nav (or eBay).
Good point re ebay etc. But then need someone to fit!

I DIY fitted on my Mk5 and Mk6, wasn't too hard - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=1524...Good point re ebay etc. But then need someone to fit!

From what I have read it is a functionally better system than discover. It is also cheaper, and from what I can see, removable, which should yield a £200+ return in two years.
Not really removable without dismantling the dashboard and removing all the fittings and cabling for it.You also loose some functionality like it won't display on the mfd between dials
