Can anyone explain what happens at the end of a lease? Do you have the option to purchase your vehicle and if so, at what price? Is the price negociated at the start of the term of is there a pre-determined value upon signing?
No, you cannot buy it at the end of the lease.

I am sure you can buy it. You don't however have an automatic option nor may it be favourable.

There's a legal reason it can't be sold to the person who leased it but usually you get the option for a family member or friend to buy it wink Not always worth it though as the price can quite often be higher than market value at that point.

Interesting - what's the legal reason?

For companies it's to do with capital allowances, not sure it holds true for private persons

I can't remember the exact details but it was to do with differentiating from PCP type deals etc as I think there is some different tax/vat rules for a lease. You are only "renting" the car on a lease whereas via a pcp you have to do everything against the whole value of the car? I've got a letter from BMW for my M5 and it clearly states it can only be sold to family member or friend so definitely applicable to private lease.

With our 640d which was leased directly from BMW, as we neared the end of the lease (personal) we received a letter saying we could apply to purchase the vehicle or extend the lease if we wanted to, however we didn't want to do either so didn't ask for further details.

VWFS have a section on their site that lets you get a quote to purchase your vehicle 3 months prior to the end of your contract hire agreement.

My vehicle has just moved to stage 5 'in transit', how long has it taken people to finally get their hands on it from this stage?

Not long to wait then compared to the 7 months I've already waited if it is 2 weeks. Hopefully won't be 2 months because I've been told I should have it by the end of the month.

I ordered mine on January 11th or thereabouts. So, four months start to finish. Mine's a boggo standard order, I expect that's why it came quicker than a lot.

Stop rubbing it in biggrin

Mine and my 2 brothers ordered in October were both completely standard also (well, 2 with DSG the other manual) and none have been delivered yet...

Mines 3 door manual but with white paint, so not completely standard. I'm surprised with 4 months start to finish though, how much extra cash did you have to slip them for that?
