In case it's useful for others...

My Golf R was stolen last month but VWFS have been amazing and found me a replacement.

They don't always do it, but to those who say it can't be done - it can...
That's a shame, glad it's being replaced.

How was it taken?

This is what scares me away from buying some cars. I have a few friends who have experienced this. Now their advice is to leave your keys in an easily accessible location near the front door. You dont want to end up in a discussion with an intruder if he cant find your keys. Unless you're Chuck Norris?

Agree with leaving keys somewhere easy to find (but not visible from windows or letter box). Its hard enough to deal with a break-in I'm sure but having to deal with physical threats etc would be horrible.

I'm just making it harder to get into the house to start with and getting a time delayed safe.
(probably aggravate them a bit) but might just make them scarper...

Just got a new Golf R after my old one was stolen.

I'd forgotten just how good this car is. I got used to it very fast but its amazing!

Love the little improvements they've made.

The new software on the head unit works well better and its so good to be able to change the volume of the sound actuator thingymajig!

Throttle response seems sharper too - although maybe thats just having been in a hire car for 6 weeks!

Also the Radar cruise seems to work better now and is more intuitive (when indicating on overtake etc) - maybe it always did that...

Sorry to hear about the theft but glad your sorted with a replacement! Is it brand new then? Did it require any extension on the lease term?

Brand new, 10 miles on the clock. Was a pre reg car. no extension of lease, just ends at same time. I was paying for the car for 2 months since the theft until finance was settled but its ended as well as it can

At least I shouldn't have to pay for excess mileage now...

Anyone contemplating the Golf R - just do it. I can't imagine a better all round package. It might not be perfect but its such a great car especially for the price!

Thanks, just submitted a contact form.

I fancy something cheap and fun and nothing comes close to the R at the moment. I said I'd never have another vw after the disaster that was my R32, lets see!

For anyone taking a lease I would say don't go for the 9+23 options...

Ask them to quote a 3+23... You might pay slightly more but it won't be loads more.

9 upfront payments is a lot to potentially lose if it gets written off/stolen. (I was very fortunate to get a replacement car but I expected to lose my 9 upfront payments after 4 months ownership)

Can you get the equivalent of an rti gap policy for lease cars?

I had a look at the ALA site last night but couldn't see any RTI element.

They do shortfall on the car value and cover for the remaining payments, but no way of recouping what youve paid out?

There isn't a product in the insurance world for that yet, although they are looking into it.
As you say their is gap but that is just for any shortfall...

So on my sons GTD from CVL (which he paid a £2400 initial payment) and has ALA GAP cover - if the car is written off (currently 2 months old) - he will get none of that £2400 back...but will be covered for the remaining payments?

If that's the case - I will be telling him not crash it anytime soon!
