So on my sons GTD from CVL (which he paid a £2400 initial payment) and has ALA GAP cover - if the car is written off (currently 2 months old) - he will get none of that £2400 back...but will be covered for the remaining payments?

If that's the case - I will be telling him not crash it anytime soon!
He will get nothing back. He will pay his policy excess and then keep paying the remaining payments until the insurance settle with the finance company (mine took 6 weeks which spanned 2 payments)

VWFS sometimes can source a new car but its at their discretion and very unlikely...

He will have to pay any shortfall from the insurance payment to what VW ask for and then he will have to claim this back from his gap insurance.

Just had an email in from my lease company... 6 months to go till my R gets taken away. Time to look at something else.

To be honest... No. It's a fantastic and very capable car, but I'm having an early mid-life crisis and I'd like something a little edgier and more vocal.

The new Mustang V8 fitted the bill, but I'd currently be looking at Christmas or early 2017 delivery.

2017 delivery?! YIKES!

Looked at one the other day but 20mpg wouldnt suit me. Would sooner have a c63 or m3...

I've only averaged 26mpg in the R, 20mpg isn't that different.

If only you could still buy something new like an MG RV8 or a Chimaera. I've got old cars tucked away, but need something reliable for long journeys and every day.

C63 is an option...

Worth it for the relatively low cost though?

I want something more substantial, but can't justify the cost at the moment, so looking at the R for 18-24 months of cheap kicks as my 182 needs some tlc (and a turbo conversion!)

26mpg - yikes! you must drive like a hooligan! In that case you'll prob get mid teens out of the mustang!

C63 I would love.

I have got 26 mpg so far in 6k miles. Mostly as my wife does more miles than me in it and her 30 mpg offsets my sub 24. Some journeys I get around 21 mpg. It's quite hilly here which doesn't help. No traffic though.

I have never leased a car, but am pretty tempted by a Golf R.

Does any one know of any good deals around at the moment?

And how does it work in reality? Upfront deposit then monthly payments and you hand the keys back at the end of the term?

There are a few cars in the dealer network - try Gateway2lease and Vehicle Consulting. 9 + 23 - 274 inc per month @ 8000 miles Per year. 6.3p per mile for excess mileage.

How it works - complete the documents - 14 day cooling off period - pay deposit of 9 mths advance rental plus fee of approx 180. Car is delivered. 1 month after start the 23 monthly payments. End of lease period, the car is collected.

You pay the admin fee when you order the car, then pay the initial payments a few days before or the day the car is collected/delivered and a month after start paying the monthly payments.

Have you looked into PCP deals?

It’s a halfway house where you can hand the keys back at the end or pay a balloon payment to own the car outright.

Tempted by one of these myself. I love my S3 but these golf R deals are great value.

Looking for a DSG with sat nav - if anyone knows of any hot deals going it would be great!

Cheers,

How does transferring a lease work? Is it something easily (and legitimately) done?

Your suspicions is wrong , there is even sites for it like http://www.swap-a-lease.co.uk/

How do lease transfers work?

The basic lease transfer process is the same for all leasing companies. The entity wishing to assume the lease submits a credit application to the leasing company who own the asset.. The leasing company will make a decision on the credit worthiness of the applicant. If approved, normally lease transfer documents are prepared and will be signed by the lease seller and buyer. The transfer is complete when the signed documents are returned to the leasing company and processed. There are variations in the fees and details for each leasing company and sellers and buyers are encouraged to make themselves aware of all the precesses and requirements of the leasing company involved - we would strongly suggest taking independent legal and/or financial advice before entering into a lease transfer agreement.
