Lease on Golf R
Discussion
Has anyone seen any press reviews of the 7R yet?
The time has came to replace my owned-from-new 2006 MK5 GTI, and although the MK7 GTI is very impressive I can't quite get my head around the cost of changing, when the car in question is in reality very similar. The R on the other hand is a completely different proposition, far more powerful and all the benefits of 4Motion, for not a huge amount of money more than a MK7 GTI.
I guess I'll get a drive in a few weeks, just hoping the car reviews more positively than the S3 has.

I've prices for both the R and performance pack GTI. The cost per month isn't much between them but the thing that niggles me with the R is its down to run on 98Ron.
Going back to having to find super every time it needs a fill is a big negative for me. I guess that's the down side to 300bhp from a 2.0 4pot. Given i do 25/30k PA it's pushing me to the GTI.

Out of interest what numbers did you get quoted? my quote for 25k was astro-flippin-omical!

I'd be careful if you're basing your choice solely on this. With the MK5 the handbook stated a "minimum requirement" of 95 RON, which conflicted with the filler cap which stated "98 (95) RON". I've always assumed this to mean they recommend 98, and that 95 is a minimum. The MK7 GTI simply states "95 minimum", and the handbook doesn't contain any information about it at all.Going back to having to find super every time it needs a fill is a big negative for me. Where have you read that the minimum is 98 on the R?
Sorry typo on that post, joys of using an iPhone. £405 was my quote from a company called vehicles for business. The person I was talking to really knew his cars and was on the ball.
The only thing stopping me is having seen a standard Mk7 it looks kinda small coming from a VW CC. I'm going to have a look round one this week to see if I can make it work for me. I think it's really just getting my head round the idea of a hatchback I think as most of my cars have been coupes or 4 door.

Very tempted with this. Went into main dealer today to get a comparison on PCP. 5 door man with paint worked out at £2k plus 36x £497!
That would mean I could lease and stick £200 in my pocket each month!
With the G2L deals is there likely to be scope to extend or buy out at th end of the term?

Just been reading the brochure, saw this and remembered your post. GTI is 95 RON, the R however:Where have you read that the minimum is 98 on the R?

Read up on how Haldex 4 and 5 work. These systems can pre-lock at 50/50 before any slip occurs. Slip that occurs thereafter can and does push the car into rear bias when cornering, accelerating, and many other scenarios. They function for all intents and purposes like the Torsen center diffs in sporty driving or inclement conditions. This little video from a German forum does a nice job showing just how extreme it can get with lots of slip present. Notice which axle appears to rotate first and the difference in rotation speeds: http://www.vimeo.com/3313154
