over 8'000 miles and still getting good MPG, although a little lower now I'm giving it in the gears., still mid to late 40's though. And have also permanently left the car in dynamic as I find the steering in comfort way to loose, anyone else think the same???
The reason I'm posting though is that the other day "up north" coming down a country road, wet, a very tight S-bend approached, I touched the brake on the straight and the back stepped out, only briefly and all controlled by the car, but it was most disconcerting... Yes I had a boot full, you know the typical A6 boot full, golf clubs, trolley, brochures, over night bag etc, but its got me look at winter rubber now... Anyone else experience this???
Blimey, that would wake you up! Not had that at all, but then I've not really driven it with anything much in the boot. Do drive it on wet roads with lots of bends daily, not had anything like that though, not even a hint.
It was a bit disconcerting to say the least, has not happened since I might add...

If I get my A6 then the boot will be properly full most of the time with parts and tools, probably equal to at least one adult in weight if not more. Is this something more likely to affect the Ultra Black edition due to the bigger wheels/lowered suspension as I'll be getting the more basic A6 Ultra SE Avant?

PS.Is getting mid 40s mpg unrealistic with the autobox for mostly motorways and A roads?

Hi All,

I've had my red Avant for 2 weeks now, waited a long time for an exclusive order and now Misano is a standard cokiur option! Anyway, there is probably only one or two out there in Misano and it looks the nuts, definitely consider it if you're ordering one of the face lift ones.

I've averaged 44 over 500 miles so far, not great but I get bored easily!

Given the launch of the facelift and the fact that my exclusive order was no longer exclusive Audi have sorted me out with another car for April. I Ticked the sline sports suspension box this time and am perhaps regretting it. Any thoughts?

I have gone with rs6 style wheels this time rather than blade and note they are 45 profile instead of the current 35 profile on the blade style alloys. I wonder if this will improve the ride... Perhaps more than offset by the extra 10mm on the sline sports suspension.

Hmmmm I'm happy with the ride as is, like a sportier look, but don't want to ruin the ride! Any thoughts welcomed please.

Luke
Would have gone Red, if it was an option at the time... Palette was only monochrome unless you went for an RS or exclusive!

We have 20's, sline + sport suspension (further 20m drop I think)
Car is great, even when loaded. Although when the boot is full some compressions can get the front and rear feeling like they are out of sync.

Don't forget to spec the pan roof

In terms of fuel consumption, I've done 2K in mine. Average is 37, but that's mainly town. On a run last night I saw 52 (long stretch of 50mph, then 70. Today I got 47mpg. On my a-road commute, I'm now getting 42 if I'm not using the paddles. That's in dynamic mode, given up on economy mode.

A bit lower than I'd like, but given the rest of the package I could live with 42mpg. It just shows what a mockery the official mpg figures are thought. My current car (320d Touring manual) claimed about 60mpg combined IIRC, I average 47mpg. As the A6 Ultra auto claims slightly more than this I would have hoped for something similar to the 320d average, but it fits with my cynical ideas that the auto isn't really more economical in day to day driving.

Am considering an A6 Avant 2.0TDI Ultra Black Edition S Tronic. I have a good price on a personal contract hire but would be interested to hear of any other owner experiences; fuel economy, ride quality (on 20's), comfort, issues etc before I commit.

Thanks.

We have just got rid of our A6 Ultra S-line. Horible vehicle, road noise was terrible. Ride and handling poor. Ours was only on 18's aswell. The gearing in 7th is way over geared. It's only redeeming feature was good fuel economy!

I would urge anybody considering an Ultra to have an extended drive.

We now have a 5 Series, M-Sport on 19's and the ride is still better.

Gotta say I find mine the exact opposite of this opinion, 20"s on s-line suspension are comfy on the motorway and only a bit crashy round town, although that is more the state of the roads than the car itself. Some wind noise from the wing mirrors, but the facelift comes with acoustic glass so that should sort that, I'd take one over a BMW anytime.

Interesting and different perspectives!

I am probably going to stick with the 20's but I will have the S6 style alloys instead on the titanium rotor arm ones. I might go brilliant black to save a few quid too, but Daytona is probably my favourite colour.

I see there are 3 suspension options, S line, sport or standard, which one would be best? My driving profile will be 20k ish miles per year on Motorways and fast A roads - 50 mile each way commute every day.

What sort of mpg could I expect? Mid t high 50s driven modestly?

Personally I would get the s-line suspension, car looks better and you lose nothing in ride quality IMO.

We've had our BiTDi Black Edition Avant for 5 weeks, I can highly recommend ticking the adaptive air suspension box. In my mind, well worth the money compared to lots of other popular options. The roads around the village are ridiculously potholed and it's never crashy but when pressing on in Dynamic mode nice and taut.

There is no way I cannot justify ticking the adaptive air suspension box (at £2000) on a contract hire car. I'll just have to rough it with s line suspension.

I just went end sat in an A6 Saloon black edition, very nice place to be, likewise the new C Class Interior is quite special.

So, any expereinces of MPG?

I've had mine for a while (summary above).

Coming from a 320d mSport (f31) on run flats, I find the ride on 20s to be fine, better than my last car.

I'm getting somewhere around the low 40s mostly, that's town, a-road commute and with the auto gearbox, quite happy with that. I averaged 49 in my 320 as a comparison.

No regrets at all.

Mine is moonlight blue - looks stunning (when it's clean!).

Was very glad to see the back of mine. Enjoyed seeing someone drive it away from our house after the sale!

Economy was poor on mine with auto+Quattro. Ride quality was horrendous. I didn't test drive it long enough or over wide variety of roads. A big mistake I won't make again!

You can't (and never have been able to) get an Ultra with Quattro.

Your story doesn't add up.
