2.0TFSI Oil Consumption

Bought an 2011 2.0TFSI A4 Avant last week with 54k on the clock and FSH from Slough Audi. 300 miles in and the oil level warning light came on. I'm going ot be monitoring oil consumption for the next 500miles and see...

I'd ask for a refund personally, now! Or at the very least tell them & follow it up in writing.

A mate bought one, and they refused to take the car back, within about three weeks of picking it up, clearly a known issue from at minimum the previous owner.

Yes they repaired it, but when you've literally just bought a car!

Nonsense.

Free engine rebuild (and substantial betterment) of a 6 year old car? Yes please!

Take the loan car, get it fixed, enjoy.

That's more than just annoying. I'd bet it will need pistons/rods/etc. The good news is that in buying from a main dealer they don't really have any grounds to refuse this, AND it will be done with the proper parts and hopefully by a senior tech that's done the job a couple of dozen times already.

In fairness to the dealer, it's not something you could check for without taking it on a 500 mile test drive. And if you'd bought it privately you'd have a world of expensive pain frown

Cracking cars, though. Loved mine, despite it's drinking habit smile

Process is the same if service history is all there. Have done it myself.

Interesting. I'm usually wary of ambulance-chasing lawyers like this, though...

I'd missed the "You and Yours" item on BBC Radio om this topic. That could help get things moving too.

I don't think these guys are 'ambulance chasers' at all.

This is a situation where multiple 'individuals' get fobbed off by the large manufacturer, even though there is clear evidence of a major issue.
Individually, the car owners are fairly powerless against the large manufacturer, but together they carry a lot more weight. (I wish there was more of this in the UK).


BMW had similar with their alloy wheels - anyone remember this...

You're rather late to the party! Audi have been rebuilding affected engines FOC for a long time now. Mine was done almost three years ago.

Presumably with conditions such as 'must be below 40,000 miles, must be below 5 years old, must have full dealer service history etc etc?

Mine was done at about 65K miles, over 6 years old. It did have full dealer history. This particular problem only affected certain models (2009-2011) so an 'age limit' makes no sense.

Audi UK dragged their heels badly on this at the start, with goodwill payments being a total lottery, but after the BBC Watchdog piece they got their act together and addressed it pretty satisfactorily. Owners who'd had to pay (or part pay) for rebuild costs were reimbursed.

Full service history (even if not all main dealer) was required - but I'd say that's acceptable.

Is this more of an issue on the 2.0 compared to the 1.8? Also does engine layout i.e. Longitudinal play any part?

IIRC the oil consumption issue is specific to the 2.0 EA888 engine installed longitudinally. So I think only affects 2.0T A4/A5/Q5s.
