Golf GTI for 6k?
Discussion
As I mentioned previously the wheels do not look too nice in pictures. In reality they really do look amazing. Plus they are an official VW item (On the German Edition 30 as standard), so OEM too. I may be tempted to change them for a set of BBS Pescara (Edition30) if I can find a decent set for sale.
The headlights are pretty adequate for my needs. Although are not even remotely comparable to the xenons available. I live in a well lit area, and rarely (if ever) travel down unlit lanes etc.
Thanks again,
Faz

So I've had my GTI for a couple of months. I've made some subtle changes to it. I've promised myself not to get too carried away with it, and have largely stuck to this
I've changed all the interior lights to LED ones, I've changed the Detroit Wheels for some Edition 30 Pescara's (They definitely need a refurb), Ive upgraded the front end with some Genuine R32 Xenons.
Anyway, Il let the pictures do the talking! Hope you like it!
Heres the pictures showing off my new wheels!
And Another angle
And another...
Heres the (Genuine R32) Xenons being installed
And heres the Xenons finally installed
Hope you like it!

I always thought that the BBS CH/Pescaras worked better on a standard GTI without all the ED30 trinkets. I'd be tempted to get a set for my Leon if that didn't mean switching over to R18 tyres. The one thing that really freshens them up (aside from the Xenons up front which you've already retrofitted) is spraying the rear bumper body colour.

I'm thinking of replacing the rear valance (lower part of the rear bumper) with an edition 30 version as I find it just looks so much better then the black plastic it currently has. The Pescaras are a PITA to keep clean lol, I always end up seeing spots I've missed after cleaning them.

Nice do you mind saying how much you paid for the xenons and were they an easy fit? Looks smart.
Hi Si-xsi! Id have loved a Tornado Red GTI like the one in your profile pic! Awesome colour!I brought the xenons of a member over on the mk5 golf gti forum (www.mk5golfgti.co.uk).
I'll pm you with regards to the cost, but fitting was one of the more easier jobs. 4 screws in each arch, and approx 6 or so screws underneath holding the bumper plus 2 holding the grill. The bumper just slides off and the lights are held in by 3 Torx screws each. I do have a little bit of wiring left to install as I never had the correct adapter at the time. This is to enable bi-xenon functionality, which I hope to have wired up when I get some free time over a weekend sometime soon.
The install can get much more complicated & costly if you decide to add on the auto levelling and headlight washer systems.
Thanks, I really wanted midnight blue but couldn't find one at the time of looking, there's not many red ones near me.
Cheers for the info Faizan, really helpful. Mind you, i'm not sure I have the balls to take the front bumper off for fear of not getting it back on again properly! Hmmm I will look into it though because I think it really makes a difference. New wheels look much better too btw.

Like it and like it even more so now on the new rims - have very very fond memories of my black 3dr Mk.V. As I've said many a time before on here, I still think it's the best car I've owned pound for pound, though my new Mk.7 R may change that perception as time goes on.
Cheers mate! I was really torn between the Mk.V and the EP3 Type R. I think I would have enjoyed revving the nuts off the EP3 all for a couple of days. The all round ability of a Mk.V is too great compared to ALOT of its rivals. Let us know how the M7.7 is when you've had it a while!si_xsi said:

No worries for the info, but it's really easy! you wouldn't believe how little is actually holding the front bumper on! lol
Have a look at his for the removal of the bumper - http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/front-bumper-and...
And this for removing / replacing the headlights - http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/jetta-golf-headl...
BTW, I've noticed you've been on a track. Did you do much to yours before then or did you just arrive and drive?

Wheels suit it well. I wasn't a massive fan of the black monzas but your new set looks good
I'd love to do the xenon upgrade on mine but doesn't look cheap!
Thanks mate! You always helped me with my queries, I'm surprised to hear you think that the xenon upgrade is super expensive. I paid less for the xenon's then most pay for their RNS510's I'd love to do the xenon upgrade on mine but doesn't look cheap!
Shadow blue, thats the one!
Will check out the links at home. Thanks
Yeah first time on track was at Silverstone combined with a Pistnheads Sunday Service. It was a trackday session for beginners, think it was £40 for 30 mins track time, which was enough! Didnt do anything apart from check fluids, tyre pressures and topped up with super unleaded. Car is compeltely standard, the tyres coped well, the breaks started to soften halfway round so i did a couple of laps at half pace to cool them down a bit. Although aterwards the rear breaks squeaked and upon closer inspection i required new rear pads.
The instructor recommended not to apply the handbreak straight after...the heat would melt the discs to the pads. They also said always have at least half a tank of fuel on board to reduce the risk of a fuel surge mid corner. It was great to get out by yourself though, everyone was very courteous and the thing which stood out for me was how smooth the surface was with plenty of run-offs and the width of the track. Definitely recommended.

She's looking great Faizan - some nice tasteful mods there!
Did you ever get the seat bolster tidied up?
Cheers Andrew I'm just super glad you had looked after it as well as you had, which has allowed me to spend some monies on making her my own Did you ever get the seat bolster tidied up?
I did arrange for the seat bolster to be repaired, but I wasn't assured of the cloth matching very well. Its no where near as bad some I have seen though, so thats not a major concern.
Hows the MK7 treating you?
