Looking at a Tiguan 2.0TDi 177 DSG or Q3 with same engine.
R Line vs S Line Plus.

Thoughts?

Any reasons to chose Tiguan over Q3? (Leaning to Q3 at moment)

Tiguan has a lot more rear leg room and generally feels more spacious. I also prefer the driving position in the Tiguan.

Q3 is a better financial choice since its hanging onto its value very well, residuals are excellent. The Tiguan is getting a little long in the tooth now and I'd expect it will be replaced sooner than the Q3 will. Both are good cars though and the 177 DSG a fine choice.

If I remember right doesn't it have sliding rear seats, so you can choose between more rear legroom or bigger boot?

Genuine question; why? I always wondered what people see in these cars vs something like an A4 Avant (what can a regular family estate NOT do)?

For me, with back problems, I find my A4 Avant S Line difficult to get in and out of so I am considering a move to a Tiguan which I hope, being higher, I'll find will be easier to get in and out of. It's not an easy decision though because my A4 has a very good spec, and S Line seats which I think are really comfortable, and it's almost impossible to buy a used Tiguan with a spec to match.

My Dad bought this Q3 (177 DSG) about a month ago, like the OP he was thinking about a Tiguan R Line - but what it came to is that the Q3 feels like an altogether more solid car, although the deals on the Tiguan were far more competitive.

Personally I like it, its dull to drive and all that but my Dad feels way more comfortable in it compared to his A5 and it is indeed a very relaxing drive - and not as small as it looks. Only downside was the 4 month wait!

I understand that access is easier (I suffered with sciatica and ankle problems for a while) but it's a big sacrifice to make. I actually found a 3-door car with big doors much easier to get in and out of, with the B pillar not getting in the way - maybe something to consider for those who aren't quite ready for a top-heavy thing just yet.

However, I just don't "get" the recipe for the Q3. - It's got less boot space than a A4 avant (or Evoque), it's nowhere near as good to drive and it's not exactly capable off-road either - The A4 Allroad has more ground clearance. Add the fact (OK, opinion, if your name's Ray Charles) that it's been beaten half to death with the ugly stick and all your left with is an advert to the masses that you've got a bad back. What am I missing?

The boot in the Q3 isnt actually that much smaller and it comes in nearly 2k cheaper than the equivelant allroad so I can see why one would choose it.

However the car to look at as an alternative to the Q3 and Tiguan is a top spec Yeti!
