Golf 1.4 TSI 150 GT DSG
Discussion
I'm interested as well, have two colleagues with Mk. VII's, both complaining about the headlights.
If anyone is thinking of buying any Golf VII (except GTD/GTI/R) then I would suggest taking a deep breath and ticking the option box for xenon lights. I had an overnight test drive in an early Mk. VII and noticed that the headlights were like candles in jam jars. the xenons are excellent.
Just remember that VW offer xenons with and without the LED DRL's, at least they do now. They didn't when I ordered so I have halogen DRL's with xenon dipped and main beam. Wasn't happy......

My wifes A3 Sportback 1.4 ACt 150 arrived back in November. We've covered just over 1000 miles in it.
The MPG so far has been OK. We've averaged 37mpg over that time with an average speed of 20 MPH. That gives you an idea of the type of driving it has been used for. Alot of stop start, short journeys.
On any motorway run we have done, the car has been rammed full, with 4 passengers, dog and a boot full, the car usually returns about 43 mpg in these circumstances and thats sitting at a Sat Nav indicated 70mph, which is about 76 on the dash.
Other than that, quite enjoy driving the car.

Our Leon is now up to 4000 miles, long term average per the computer is 43mpg. Did a lot of driving in it over the Christmas period and a few long trips, Hampshire to Yorkshire saw 44mpg and I wasn't hanging about.
On one trip I saw an average of 58.2 at one point, having joined the M3 and traveled about 15 miles in a 50mph average zone with cruise control set, but that dropped to 45mpg after getting through a congested south London to Clapham.
Still loving the car, really is good. A few family and friends traveled in it, and most of them commented on how quiet it is, hardly noticeable at idle that the engine is on!

My Golf is now up to 5700 miles and according to the spreadsheet (sad!) I'm logging it on it's doing 43.3MPG - though I should add I'm not exactly pushing on, motorways I'll sit at 75mph. If you do use the (good) performance it sinks massively. What I do like is that you have the option to drive sensibly for the economy, say on your commute, or enjoy it when conditions allow.
I took two petrol head mates out in it on Saturday and they too commented on how quiet it is, superb. No, it's hardly going to set the world alight, but as a reasonable alternative to a diesel it makes it's case.
Plus of course petrol's dropped in price so making it even better! And it seems the gap with diesel has increased slightly, 7p cheaper per litre round my way.

Finally got my Polo, on a sensible attempt at my commute (A-Roads, light traffic) its getting 48mpg. 42 average over the tank, but as there are only 350 miles on the car it should sneak up a bit.
Still running in, but quite impressed at the torque and the way it makes swift progress rather easy. Looking forward to seeing what it will do.
Its a Polo Blue GT DSG, so exactly the same engine as everyone else, just a bit less mass to pull around :-). My wallet is feeling happy - gone from 28mpg (E46 330ci) to 42 and petrol has dropped to £1.05.

The polo isn't much lighter than the MQB cars, Polo 1,224kg, Leon 1,241kg and Golf 1,270kg. So the extra size does not carry a big weight penalty which is weird, must be weight saving in the new chassis.
Interesting comments about fuel prices, when I did my man maths about going petrol or diesel, I based it on 3p litre difference and petrol worked out slightly cheaper. With the difference now 7/8p it makes it an even better option, although I don't expect that to last long term!

Doing 40 miles today I got 50.6mpg but rarely do I get over 50, yesterday over two 120 mile journeys with traffic I got 44.6 & 42.0 on the OBC, so knock off 1-2mpg. It's clear this engine is nowhere near as economical as my old Golf 2.0TDI, which in turn was better than the A3 1.6TDI, but it's SO much sweeter than both and nearly silent.
Interestingly I just referred to the spreadsheet I did last summer before ordering, that was based on 1.289 petrol comparing 1.349 diesel, oh how it's changed...........

I just got back from doing 2,700 miles around Europe in our A3 140 COD S-tronic.
It averaged 43mpg...most of the driving was at Autoroute/autobahn speeds. On one tank I got 47mpg...never thought I'd get more than 500 miles from the relatively small fuel tank. All on 95 ron.
Oh and it nudged just over 140mph on the autobahn which I was pretty impressed with. This was verified with a sat nav app...the speedo showed 150.
I wonder what the 150bhp engine will do?

Mine has now done about 16k miles so must be due it's first service soon, long term average is 46.8mpg per the display. The economy is just one side of this engine, the other is pretty decent performance when you want it, and I enjoy driving it.
It's used about 700ml of oil so it does need watching but isn't a problem given the mileage I've done in that time.
Here is proof of what it can do, a run at Easter, driven sensibly but not with ultimate economy at mind at above average motorway speeds for part of it. I'm sure it would get close to 60 if really trying but that's no fun.
