Thought I would set up for a thread on the Audi S1 which is due to be released later this year.

Is anyone buying one?

I am very tempted as it looks like a very fun car - go kart handing, 0-60 in 5.8 secs before a remap and 40 mpg combined.

Tempted in visiting a dealer in the next few days to get a PCP quote and p/x value against one.

What does everyone think about them?

I too would be interested to hear buyer's experiences.
All I know is delivery dates seem to be slipping, currently Sept at the earliest.
As virtually no discounts available its expensive at 26k before options which with Audi are crazy prices.

From another forum

Over a 36 month rental term you'd have paid out £15120, and that's if there is no loading upfront. If you are on a 3+35 term, that's £15960 paid out. If you are getting a £26k (RRP) S1, inclusive of around £1100 of extras (assuming 3 door), and you get it from a brokers for £2400 discount - there's a purchase (or finance) price of £23600. The GFV is looking to be about £14k (you'll probably get £15k p/x value, meaning you'd be £1k in equity for your next car), meaning you're financing £9400 depreciation + interest over 36 months. You're looking at about £5600 interest (7% APR? pricey!) and £9400 = £15000 = £416 a month x 36. There's nowt in it (£25 a month, if 3+35months on lease), on those terms i'd rather lease. If your monthly figs are a 24 month term then I would definitely lease.

Big discounts available on DTD, about £3000.

Seen a couple on the road and they look pretty cool.

I imagine they're a giggle but just too expensive IMO.

I'd have one if they bring it out with the S-Tronic 'box as I don't really want to go back to a Manual. Seems to have almost been done deliberately so it doesn't cannibalize Golf GTI/ Audi S3 sales. Tempted to take one for a test drive anyway.

I would love one; straight to the top of my 'want' list.

Maybe one day I'll be able to afford to buy them rather than just sell them wink

Have you driven one yet? What is it like?

I haven't; I'm at an independent rather than franchised dealer so we don't tend to see the new models for a couple of years after launch frown

Get Autocar this week, full test with all their normal facts and figures.

I can post the odd one or two if you are interested.

I'd be interested in a very short summary of their thoughts - i.e. is it any good? I like the look and concept very much, but it's too small for me (and probably too expensive, especially given its size). Also - and crucially - how fast is it? wink

Hmmmm.... Thanks for posting, but for that money, that's not really as exceptional as I was hoping for!

Yes, I thought "this is the one", but after that, its back to the better balanced GTI (which is the same price).

Minor thing but 2800rpm for 70mph is pretty high

'tis what put me off a manual S3 when we were looking a few months back - that was pulling about 3250 at an indicated 80 if memory serves. Doesn't help economy or refinement

Yeah the DSG is the only option really, but try finding one with adaptive damping - pretty much never specced based on what I can find! Somewhat off topic now lol

I have only driven a 1.6 TDI A1 S line as a courtesy car and that was pretty fun - go kart like handling. It out performs my A3 in handling by miles.

I think these S1s will be very very good. And obv a remap will improve those figures stated by photographer.
