Hey all,

Looking at a '58 plate S6 tomorrow and was just wondering if anyone here had one or could give me some advice on if there's anything I need to keep my open for?

Google doesn't seem to tell me of any horror stories so I guess its just the usual service stamps and accident damage

Set of tyres is a grand and i would check they have 98XL fitted as they dont last that long and new front discs & pads is circa £500 plus fitting.

Also make sure you check out the spec as most dealers dont know what was standard or optional in my experience with keyless entry/go being the pick for me.

Engine wise it seems to be pretty reliable with just a failed thermostat over the last 3 years of ownership. They do appear to suffer the same carbon build-up issue associated with VAG FSI engines and i might have signs with a recent manifold flap fault although that's not come back on since a reset. This is a pretty time consuming fix so your looking at a grand.

All in all its very good value for money and IMO better than the equivalent 550 or E500.

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the quick reply, a shame to hear they seem to be affected by the carbon build up issue

I'll let you know how it goes

As above.

We had the manifold flap done for Circa £1k, but it would have been a lot more if the whole manifold needed replacing!!

The only other problem that we are having currently is one of the many control units on the MMI system is playing up which causes the whole MMI system to shut down. Only occasional at the mo, but when it pursists will get it sorted. I think the part is fairly cheap, but again it's time finding the one thats broken!! Not sure on cost.

Thirsty....18/19mpg around town, 23/24 on a long run (a tad higher if you stick to 60mph).

A lot of car for the money these days.

Good luck

Timing chain and tensioners. If it needs doing it's a huge job.

Its 43k miles so I dont think I have to worry about that for a while

Hopefully its everything I want, fuel isnt much of a big deal as it wont do more than 6k a year thanks to train commuting, im just looking for some top quality V10 barging tongue out

Oil every 12 months/10k please.

Obviously a personal opinion only but I think longlife servicing is stupid.

Yes, I think there's a BMW fit equivalent that's a 91/92 and cheap but nowhere near man enough.

Mine has asked for more twice in my 1,500 miles of ownership. Put in around 3/4 of litre I reckon but I'm sitting in town traffic a lot and average fuel consumption is 16.9 mpg. Must be using it to keep cool.

To those talking about manifold issues and costs of £1,000 - does the include decoking? If not, what's the story here?
